Nah, their problem is they take very very small incremental steps when it comes to iterating on their formula. You don't really see is as much in their licensed which need to have a unique gimmick or angle of their own, but Dynasty Warriors is very samey if you look at them from an outsider POV. If you actually follow the series you can see all the changes they've made over the years. But yes, they're still the same guys because that's what they are. It's not like they'll do massive changes and piss off their loyal fanbase or something. They've also show they CAN make a much more polished game with higher production values if they have someone looming over them, preferably license holders.

The strategy isn't really important because you usually can't control your army and on their own your army tends to be pretty useless and requires you to babysit them. Speaking as a musou fan the biggest problem is the difficulty curve, which is to say the fact that it's a straight line for a long time. It starts piss-easy, then continues to be piss-easy, because even though the difficulty increases the tools you need to play at the most difficult parts are given to you really early. And in most games you have to beat the story to unlock the higher difficulties, and in the secondary modes (Conquest, Adventure, etc.) you start at what is hand-holding and have to go through a lot of easy stuff to get to the difficult stuff. It's essentially a grind where the reward is an actual challenge, and most people don't have the desire to put in the time required to get to that stuff, which is absolutely fair enough. But this means they just get the impression that the piss-easy boring grind part is all there is to the games.
I think Basara handles the difficulty curve a lot better than the Koei games do, and I've noticed many times people saying, "I don't usually like warriors/musou games, but I enjoyed Basara."

Besides that there's more to Berserk than the speed, there's weight and enemy count. FromSoft dosent really like giving you more than a handful of enemies at a time while Guts is known to fight entire crowds.

I really liked the second half of the Conviction arc, but I loved Lost Children because we get to see Guts just go completely berserk. I believe it was around this time that the "Wolf" started to develop inside of Guts, the side of him that just goes full Berserk and blocks out everything else.
It was cool as well because Conviction was a turning point like you said, it was around that time that Guts started to change even more into a more caring character.
I might have to re-read Berserk soon, can't get enough of it!

The only game of theirs I enjoy is bayonetta and guts doesn't and shouldn't do stupid combos. Musou is not a good fit for most of beserk. It MIGHT work for the golden age but for everything else it will be shit. Guts attacks should have weight to them and I have never seen a musou game that wasn't floaty as hell.

Yeah, sure. Miyazaki is a dexfag at heart, so Guts would control and feel like a huge log of shit, because they absolutely can't do big swords well enough to be fun. Not to mention their fetish for stunlocks, so every time you took a swing, a gentle slap on the chest by some small enemy would stun Guts for like 4 seconds each time for no reason.
Fuck that. They're the LEAST qualified to make a good Berserk game. They're only good for stealing shit from Berserk and putting it in their games.
