It's a long story.
Troika (the devs of VTMB) died since VTMB sold like shit.
The reason it sold like shit was because their publisher, Activision, forced them to use and early version of the then cutting-edge Source engine early on in development.
The switch to the Source engine (which was buggy as fuck at the time even if you knew what you were doing) caused massive delays in the development of the game.
On top of this, one of the conditions that Valve forced Activision to agree to in order to let them use the Source engine was that they couldn't release their game before Valve released Half Life 2 (then still in development).
To get around this, Activision had the bright idea to release VTMB THE SAME DAY AS HL2. They then forced Troika to finish the game with this release schedule in mind, giving Troika NO TIME to even remotely finish the game, let alone bug test.
This lead to the game being an unfinished, buggy mess that failed at launch, causing them to go bankrupt.

Most of the servers that we play on are either yurop based or on the US' East coast.
There's only one on the West coast where I live, and no one likes to play on it.
Besides, we already have a ton of players from yurop, and I don't think that I've seen one of them break 200 ping in a while.
I think most people float around about 70-160 ping, so even if you do get 200 you're not too far outta the ball park.
Hell, one of the best players I know has a constant ping of 200-300 since he's from the wonder down under.
