I'd say Papers Please is a lot more of a game than this. Sure, it has worse story/characters, but the gameplay had proper failure states and you had to actually put effort into managing your family rather than just "Work while distracted or buy things that stop you from being distracted.

Well, you're not exactly wrong, but it's a lot harder to reach them than in Papers Please. Even after buying everything Jill requested to not be distracted, I had no problems with money whatsoever. Even if you fuck up a few times, nothing terrible happens, and most of the drink requests are really straightforward, so the Perfect Bartender bonus is pretty easy on most days. Papers Please felt a lot more urgent and complex, I guess.

What actually determines what endings you get? I've done pretty much all of the days flawlessly and given everyone exactly what they want and never put any alcohol if its optional.
I only know you get a bad ending if you dont pay the rent.
