How long are we talking until this gets good? I'm a couple of hours in and the stealth and gunplay is just fucking boring, yet everybody else calls it amazing and one of the best games of last gen.
>>
it doesn't get good until you leave Boston
trust me I know the feel because I tried playing this game a while ago and got pissed off with the beginning of this game and gave up for a year.
it gets so much better bro

>ITT faggots whining at one of the best videogames ever made in the history

When you are done talking shit give it a try to "Factions" the TLOU multiplayer so you can get your ass properly kicked and taught some valuable lessons about what is a real vidya

It took me one whole year to git gud at Factions... but at least Im not a fag and already appreciated the gem this game is

The game is nowhere near "amazing" or "perfect". But the narrative is nice, the graphics and aesthetics are beautiful, and the characters are pretty likeable. It's very much a movie first - game second experience, but I still enjoyed it.

Ending sucks, though.

>>
>>342273065
I just played through it for the first time a few weeks ago, and while I did enjoy the gameplay, I wouldn't say it was exceptional. What was my favorite part was the narrative as you play through it and witness the characters, their development and interactions, as well as the presentation of the world itself. Yes, there is a style to it, but walking through houses and building and dorms each have a story to themselves that leaves them actually feeling lived in. Its admittedly gay as fuck to admit, but playing TLoU made me appreciate my home and family IRL, if only because there are parts that get under your skin when it really convinces you what the world could like like without them.
>>342278734
Seems you have a similar opinion to my own. I do have one question though. I have a friend who insists there is a recorder in the hospital that confirms that there have been other people immune to infection that the Fireflies had also tested on, but were unable to derive a vaccination from. I don't recall having found it even though I played that entire area like I was Snake, trying to grab everything in there. Did you or any other anons find that recording, because it really changes my opinion of the ending if it is real.
>>
>>342273065
It doesn't get good. The only spark of greatness I saw in the game was during the deer screne and then I though "FINALLY! The game will finally change and get good once for all".

But then that stupid plot twist. You are back on track, facing the very same enemies again, doing the same corridor walks and searching furniture for meaningless items. No bosses, no clever design, just corridors filled with the same enemies for 15 hours, then an underwhelming ending.
>>
>>342281089
You are a complete shit for brains. Fact.

IF HE THINKS YOU ARE WHATEVER THE FUCK, YOU CAN LITERALLY NOT DISPROVE IT, RETARD
>>
>>342273065
the gunplay is ripped right out of Uncharted, so yeah it's not very fun. the rifle is fun though, and it can turn an enemy's head into tomato sauce. the stealth gets harder and more tense later, when you have to deal with more infected. stealth against humans is boring since they can't hear you when you crouch walk.
>>
>>342281370
well, thats a false thing to say
asshole
>>
>>342273065
Until you leave Boston.
>>
>>342281303
No. The recorder says they have tested on infected before, but they've never seen anything like this. It means they've managed to sedate people who were infected or in the process of turning and experimented on them with no success, but this is the first time they've encountered someone with this specific mutation.
>>
>>342273065
survival will never be good
just the fact that you are forced to have a companion with retarded AI makes this game fucking shit
>>
>>342281303
>recording

Obviously it doesn't fucking matter if it was real or not. Humanity once again proves that it is above anything attempting to destroy all humans, and what with them re-claiming the power station has shown that they are back on track to being the most dominant lifeform on the planet. The raiders have always been the most dangerous ones throughout the whole game. The whole lying thing is overplayed and maybe once Ellie is old and mature enough to appreciate what the MC did for her, he might tell her the truth. Even if not, it doesn't matter.

Grounded: Supplies are next to non-existent. Listen Mode is disabled. All enemies do triple damage. The HUD is disabled. Enemy AI is extremely sharp; more so than survivor. Multiple mid-combat and mid-stealth checkpoints have been removed.

FTFY. The gameplay's mediocre at best, the story's decent enough but the level design's linear as fuck and there's absolutely nothing groundbreaking. Anyone who believes it's even in the top 100 games ever made must be below 14 years old.

I don't know if I agree with Joel's choice. Don't get me wrong, I loved Ellie by the end of the game, but whether Marlene was bullshitting or not, Ellie said herself in so many words when she told Joel that she is still waiting to lose her mind, that she would have been okay sacrificing herself, especially for the benefit of humanity. Thats just one piece.
Then, you have Joel's entire character arc where he goes from broken, to hesitant to allowing Ellie to be anything more than cargo thats needs to be smuggled, to letting her in, to on some level making her a surrogate for Sara, which not only makes his decision making biased, but also takes what should be Ellie's choice away from her. THEN not only does he full on fucking lie to her, but when she gives him a chance to tell her the truth, he fucking doubles down.
Don't get me wrong. It was a fantastic game, and I'd love a sequel if only to continue seeing their story, but it was very much a pyrrhic victory. I don't mind those within the right context, and this certainly was. It isn't the type of game that was gonna be wrapped up with everyone smiling and a bow up top. I don't know how to express how I feel. The only image that comes to mind that best suits my sentiment is a poisoned well though.

I had figured they did the tests on her after Joel gets knocked out before waking up.
>>342283957
That's valid. My only problem with it is that if Joel had gotten her to the FFs in Boston like they planned to, he would have given her up without a second thought, and she wouldn't have cared, about that or dying. It was only after he became attached to her and started treating her like a surrogate for his daughter that the Trolley Problem manifested, and he chose the one person instead of the 5 when really whether or not it should have been one or five was Ellie's choice to make. Now if he lied to her while getting out of SLC, but told her the truth when she asked him later, it'd be one thing. She'd be pissed, and might try to run off, but it might have also allowed for another moment of character growth and bonding which is one thing the game excelled at. My biggest disappointment with E3 this year is that there wasn't a sequel announced because if/when it comes, they'll have to cover her learning the truth as well as her reaction to the truth, as well as Joel's reaction to her reaction. Yes, the FFs were turds, but Hunters would have killed her, and the military would have as well as soon as they her bite, so really, the FFs were the only ones with facilities, and maybe not the best resources, but resources period that may have tried and had a chance at developing a vaccine.
So as far as I can see it, the options were go back to Tommy's compound, or let the FFs try to make a vaccine. Were there others I'm thinking of?

>>
>>342284878

I couldn't get through Half-Life 2, it was incredibly boring. Bland shooting, super simple physics puzzles constantly, and long stretches of shit all happening. It's a glorified tech demo.

I managed to get through Last of Us once, and while it was alright the first time, I couldn't handle playing it again. All the forced slow-walk, and clunkiness of the controls makes me want to snap the controller in half. I'd say overall it was disappointing but had nice presentation. I was a few years late to HL2 so maybe it just couldn't wow me the same way it could have earlier.

I disagree. I think they play very similarly. They are all horror themed over the shoulder, horror themed shooters, with similar weapon choices (though Dead Space has Sci-Fi weapons), enemies, and controls.
They are also all linear, which seems to be one aspect that TLoU seems to catch a ton of shit for.
>>
>>342286618
This.

There are actually enemies with AI in this game, which is more than can be said for either of RE4 and DS. RE4 you can't even walk and aim at the same time.
>>
>>342285704
TLOU is quite different. Instead of shoot everything as fast as you can it force to think about supplies and move to melee combat or stealth kills where you can. This is what I like about TLOU gameplay, variety,

Played it on the hardest difficulty on release and just recently played it again on grounded

Pros
>Good writing and characters
>Collectables add to the game's lore instead of being useless shit
>Limited resources makes you adjust how you play the game and encourages experimenting with weapons
>Gun play punishes you for making stupid shots
>Melee combat is meaty and satisfying
>Crafting is real-time
>Appropriate gore and dismemberment
>Cover system isn't snapping bullshit
>Weapons and attributes are upgradable
>Good weapon variety
>Multiplayer is God tier

Cons
>Plot is generic
>Not enough enemy variety
>Bloaters completely break immersion
>Environmental puzzles are lame
>AI could have been better, especially for Ellie
>No good reason for Joel to use shivs when even Ellie had a fucking knife
>Only one good boss fight
>Only get assault rifle near the end of the game
>Dlc chapter is pointless, should have been about some the plot didn't already cover like Ish or Tommy and Joel's hijinks

Would have made it 10/10
>Deeper crafting system and inventory management
>More objects to find in the environment than just bricks and bottles
>Food can be stored for later
>Attribute and skill upgrades for Ellie
>More mini sandbox type levels
>A boss fight near the end of every season
>More infected types, maybe even animals?
>More than one QZ to visit than just Boston
>NG+ starts you off with all weapons
>More collectables and and Ellie interactions

I give it a 9/10 on release, now it's settled to 8.5/10. It's still a very solid game, but it's presentation hurts it on multiple play through. Multiplayer is really where it shines through, absolute 20/10, closest thing to the true MGO3.
>>
>>342286910

Make up your mind. Personally I found the characters to be faggots. Joel literally fucking destroys everything in his path like a behemoth, Elly says "Wow fucking awesome", Joel replies with some wanky whiny shit like "it's just luck kid, don't get ahead of yourself".

Oh you are not the same anon who said PS3 is worthless because it doesn't have grounded difficulty.
Completely missed that you wrote that you don't know what Listening is, well it's pretty much a wall hack ability. I looked it up again.

Survivor: For players that want a considerable challenge. Supplies are extremely rare to find. Game hints, prompts, and Listening Mode are disabled. All enemies do double damage. Powerful melee weapons appear once.
Grounded: For the toughest of the hardcore. Supplies are next to non-existent. Listen Mode is disabled. All enemies do triple damage. The HUD is disabled. Enemy AI is extremely sharp; more so than survivor. Multiple mid-combat and mid-stealth checkpoints have been removed.

So the only thing that really changes the game is the listening mode which is also disabled in Survivor everything else just makes the game harder.
>>
>>342286959
You don't get an assault rifle until the end of the game because the rest of the game would be piss easy with one. Moreover, most people don't have an assault rifle, so finding ammo lying around for it would be even more immersion breaking.

Bricks and bottles are fine. It's made that way to distinguish what you can pick up and what you can't.

You're right about the shivs, though. It's very unrealistic that Joel never finds a knife in the entire game or just doesn't take Ellie's knife.
>>
>>342287649
>everything else just makes the game harder
>this doesn't change the game

The HUD and hints being disabled changes everything anon.

Throwing poison sacks that grows on its own body is stupid as shit. Also the writing is really good, but i still feel like they could have came up with a more interesting plot than "Escort mission." Everything else was good.
>>

Grounded is completely different from Survivor. Survivor is honestly a cakewalk compared to Grounded, and I found Grounded to actually be a tough but fair experience.

After playing through the stupid bullshit that was Uncharted Collection's Brutal difficulty, I have a lot more respect for how well-rounded Grounded was on TLoU.

This is a problem, why?

>doesn't have problems with "zombies" knowing how to walk and climb things
>doesn't have a problem with stalkers hiding and following you unlike the completely mindless zombies
>has a problem with fat fucks throwing shit at you
>>
>>342287729
I would have liked something like Half-Life 2 more were you can pick up all kinds of random shit. Also the game takes place in murrica, plenty of .223 to be found all over the place.
>>
>>342288161
Except journalists, critics and gamers all across the world yeah.

Wonder who else said it's bad aside of few /v/tards though.
>>
>>342275168

>>
>>342288210
>The beatdown cinematics

You mean animations?

They aren't "cinematics", unless you call every animation in any game ever a cinematic.

Oh no wait I see, you probably get confused because the camera moves. Rookie mistake.
>>
>>342288270
You say that, but none of the enemies have assault rifles. That's the point, and it's also why I said "immersion breaking" and not "unrealistic."

Why are you finding ammo for a weapon you've never seen? Moreover, if the basic grunts had assault rifles for a decent portion of the game, it would get boring. The game does a great job with slowly introducing more weapon types, and enemies typically start getting those weapons around the same time that you do.

Half-Life 2 gives you a gun that can pick up any object. There's a lot of scattered objects in TLoU as scenery and decoration. Limiting the players to bricks and bottles lets you see what you can pick up and use.
>>
>>342288254
Because it directly contradicts the lore. The game says the zombies supposed to get dumber and more immobile as the fungus spreads, to the point where they have to use shitty echolocation to find you. I can chock the other shit up to instinct, but how is some fat fuck supposed to detect your location, perfectly aim and hit you, and even know enough to think this is a successful strategy with nearly no brain and eyesight. It's makes no sense.
>>
>>342288742
>The game says

You mean in the form of little letters and messages of the survivors to each other, while really meaning that nobody has ever seen one before.

Actually, I remember that there was some message where people mentioned a 4th stage.

Also, while the fat fucks can't detect your location while sneaking, they might just be a ton more sensitive to movement. I've had the guy throw shit across the room where he "thought" I was before. Not like the endless stream of zombies made it easy to test this theory however.
>>
>>342288742
They don't act more intelligent than some animals. Use senses, act on instinct and that's all. Don't know what's your point.
>>
>>342288740
That's still shit reasoning considering all of the human enemies are basic grunts and assault rifle use would naturally be limited anyways due to ammo scarcity. The assault rifle could have been introduced early in the game for mooks at least, would have given more variety to the enemies and force you to adopt different strategies with shittier weapons. I honestly think the game would have been better if the odds were stacked against you most of the time, especially since the humans are in groups that share resources.
>>
>>342288742
Bloaters can't aim well at all on Normal. Within the game canon, it's implied that Bloaters just fling their sacs wildly and use the gigantic explosion radius to kill people. Of course, they practically track you on Grounded, but a lot of stuff on Grounded is like that to make the game challenging.

It throws spores at you because all the infected in the game have a singular driving instinct of spreading the fungus. That's the entire point. They throw sacs of spores at you not because they're thinking

>I will successfully hurl this sac of spores at my opponent as a way of engaging in long-range combat. This plan has a high chance of succeeding.

It's just spewing fungus shit at you because that's what plants do: shoot spores everywhere and cum all over everything. You know that pollen all over the place in the spring? Trees and flowers are cumming on you. Good job, you got cummed on.

Oh but now you have a fucking assault rifle. So much for that idea.

What goes through your head anon?
>>
>>342289347
>wants the game to be stacked against you
>proposes introducing automatic weapons early in the game
The game is already stacked against you: you have to fight 10+ enemies in a single area countless times throughout the game.

The only reason there's an assault rifle at all is so the Fireflies actually seem competent and threatening. And the only reason you can pick up the weapon is so people like you won't complain about being unable to pick up the assault rifle.
>>
>>342287913
>still have enough cognitive function to both literally grab pieces of their body and throw it at you without missing and know that the spores are lethal to humans. Full fucking retard.

You realize this is what some animals are doing? Attacking prey with long distance poison?
>>
>>342289159
My point was, how the fuck can it aim and hit you WHEN IT CAN'T FUCKING THINK OR SEE

>>342289370
But I can accept this. That's a reasonable enough argument to shut me up.
>>
>>342287913
>know that the spores are lethal to humans. Full fucking retard.
What? Snakes bite people on instinct. When a snake bites a victim for the first time, it doesn't "know that its venom will kill its victim" based on experience or intelligence. It just knows from instinct.

You're being completely irrational. Fungi know that their spores work on humans because, guess what, it has worked before. Bloaters are said to be infected that have survived the longest and were among the earliest infected when the outbreak first took place, so of course they'd know by that point that their spores infect things.
>>
>>342289563

I meant occasionally have some dude start suppressing and flanking you with an assault rifle and forcing you to rethink how you approach the situation. I don't mean give you one early in the game. Just anything to switch up the enemy types.

I love this game. Story is pretty great and the characters feel real. It really nailed the setting too. It was perfect. The gameplay wasn't amazingly innovative or anything but it was very solid nonetheless. The MP is surprisingly fun as well despite the skill ceiling being kind of high.

>>342290050
Okay, but what about the assault rifle that he drops? You just can't pick it up? Or you can pick up but don't get any ammo for it for most of the game? If so, why have it at all?

Does it do high damage to compensate for the lack of ammo? Why, though? It's just an assault rifle. Sure, it would be stronger than a normal handgun, but not stronger than a rifle or anything.

See, all of this can be avoided by just not having an assault rifle until the end of the game when you're fighting a rag-tag militia that just happens to be a militia BECAUSE they got their hands on assault rifles. So, you're on equal grounds to them now.

I'm not a Naught Dog fanboy or anything, but they likely thought this through pretty well.

Uncharted is intentionally made to be action movie script nonsense. Each game has several scenes where the villain captures Drake but doesn't kill him just because, then he gets away. That's a common trope and is done on purpose.

He's right about Drake's Fortune being pretty shitty, though.
>>
>>342273065

One thing that I feel is underdiscussed about both Uncharted 4 and this is that they are boring or just "work" for large amounts of time. In the long run it really makes you feel like you're on a tough, exhausting long journey as opposed to just playing a game though. In other words, the gameplay may look simple and boring at first, but in the long run it comes to accentuate the story pretty well. Imo it's worth playing through.

They're just uneducated losers who have no other useful skill set, but play a lot of videogames and so want them to be seen as something more than they are by doing these fucking long bullshit videos that go on forever while they list every mechanic they can point out and comment on whether it's good or not.

They have no writing or critical thinking ability, hence why their standards are almost always retarded and shift with every game.

At least the pretentious uneducated losers who review games for a living on more well known websites like IGN allow you to read their arguments instead of subject you to hours of them talking to you like children, and also have a fucking score that you can get a general gist of how much they would recommend the game.

The game is a [poorly] veiled zombie apocalypse B-movie. It's gameplay is better left watched. It's story isn't bad. It's scripting is good. It's set pieces are meh. It's ending is an utter cop-out.
