What's your honest opinion about VR technology?
>>
Potentially pretty neat.

The games'll be crap for the first few years, though.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UIFSt0YSDls
>>
The latest in a long line of meaningless gimmicks.

I'll pick up a chink headset in a few years for 50 bucks, but until then I don't give a fuck, and neither does 99.99% of the market.

>>
>>342221598
Exactly.
The games'll be crap for the first few years.
>>
It's great but 'young'. Much in the same way 3D was with Avatar. It's an old tech but few people had really experimented with it, beyond making stuff jump towards the viewer. There are a lot of 'tech demo' games but they're paving the way towards proper titles.

>>
>>342221305
Even though apparently the PSVR demos are terrible, I think that vr can still take off with all the competition that's been springing up.

There might not be many games for the things for the first few years, and even them many of them may not be very good, so it's gonna be hard for it to survive.

I'm probably not gonna buy one until the technology has grown, though. Just in case this is just a repeat of twenty years prior. People thought that technology was advanced enough for VR then, as well. And there was a lot of competition too.
>>
>>342221305
it's good
in 2-3 years i'm getting it myself
for now i have DK2 from my work to play with.
>>
It's a neat concept but people who think this will become the new standard are retarded. At best it will become its own thing independent from normal video games.
>>
>>342221305
It's great for stuff like 3D modelling, or visualizing complex proteins, pretty much any application that isn't video games.
VR video games are a dead end, that shit just won't work beyond being a niche or a short time trend.
>>

>>
Isn't the cheapest VR hardware 400?

And it's only an addon. It will only cater to very select people.

It wont take off. It's going down the path of 3d.
>>
I have no opinion yet because I'm still waiting another god damn month before oculus decides to fuck up my order because they've been ignoring the ticket I opened concerning APO shipments.
>>
The helmets themselves mite b cool as immersion enhancers when used alongside traditional control methods, but I don't give a hoot about the motion control side.
The equipment is still too expensive and technologically just not quite perfect, but the only way for it to get better is for people to keep working on it.
>>

Hey, whatever you have to tell yourself to make you feel better about being unable to afford nice things.

When DVD players came out they were $800. When bluray players came out they were hundreds. Don't worry anon, VR will become very cheap soon and you can eventually try it for yourself.
>>
>>342224352
>weeb logic
>>
>>342224352
You're the delusional one here, POV porn is a tiny fragment of the market and generally shit.

H-game support means nothing. For one, the only games supported are 3D, which means complete ass optimisation, a tiny amount of content, and what little there is will be as vanilla as apple pie.

We've had 3D games for years, and you could count the number of average 3D porn games on one hand. I don't know why you think making that market even smaller would be a viable business move for companies that are barely holding on as-is, but visionaries like yourself are pretty good at deluding themselves.

At best, what you're going to get is a few games that you could play anyway, only now you have to do it blind. Meanwhile I'll be over here with the actual living 2D H-game market with 500 times the choice and 10,000 times the content. Porn is possibly the least compelling aspect of VR unless you're a retarded normie buying it for your Blacked subscription.
>>
>Hey, whatever you have to tell yourself to make you feel better about being unable to afford nice things.

Every time. This is the argument used to defend poor financial choices by dumb people. Maybe i should start funding every kickstarter i can and mock everyone who doesn't for being poor. Lmao.

>When DVD players came out they were $800.

DVDs were a straight upgrade in quality. It wasn't a gimmick. Just a clean cut superior experience.

>When bluray players came out they were hundreds.

Same thing.

>Don't worry anon, VR will become very cheap soon and you can eventually try it for yourself.

I've got nothing to lose, just to gain. If VR fails, i'll still have my money. If VR holds, i'll buy it for cheaper and have much better experience than buying it early.

So far your compelling argument for spending money for VR is to masturbate in first person. That's hilarious desu

Lol what are you even talking about? Illusion and Kiss have already added VR support to their games before. Custom Maid 3D 2 already has full VR support including motion controllers. Illusion's next game will have support as well. They don't have to be custom made for VR to be good.

POV porn is a tiny fragment of the market? Porn made specifically for VR is usually POV or just a solo chick. There's already hundreds of videos out there, Brazzers just announced VR videos. Theres a handful of JAV studios exclusively doing VR already.

And yes, I did try it. Spare me the usual "b-but you didnn't try it" posts. It's vomit inducing and it gives no more benefit than looking at a screen, the game developed for it so far are lame as fuck.

Most VR porn right now is 180 degrees 3d. You want your full available FOV covered in order to better immerse you. Standard sbs 3d in 16:9 or whatever is not bad to fall back on though, but the depth and shit may be off. But I do have some fairly decend 3d bluray JAVs from before there were as many studios making native VR stuff.

Either with an analog stick or games that use a small space which constantly changes and you can walk around. Flight sims and racing sims also perfectly carry over. I had a Rift DK2, was underwhelming in the sense that it could desync easily if I moved too close to the edge of the camera space. Which means thhe most dizzying feeling of flying sideways you've ever experienced. This is why the Vive looks a thousand times better, since their tracking system is much more in depth and stable.

The exciting thing for me is that even after having played vidya on a PC for years, I'd get those moments sitting in a dark room where I'd remember the game world and being my character instead of sitting in a computer chair.

So if you combine really good vidya experiences with VR which makes that push to make you forget the real world a lot more easy and effective, that part excites me.

Its like a surround sound speaker system for your tv, you could pretty much take it or leave it, but its definitely part of the "opulence package".

The only time you're gonna see a real revolutionary change in the game industry is when we hit 'dive gear' or 'thought gaming'. VR is likely the first step toward such a technology, but its a damn looong road till we get there.

>VR is a gimmick that will die off

The reason why vr will work is because it actually feels like you are there. In other words it can affect you differently than watching something on a screen can.
If a character is looking you in your eyes and talking to you, it feels significantly more effective than on a screen.

If you look up someones skirt it not only feels like you are looking up someones skirt.
You can almost feel the heat from the thighs. You can feel how big/how close you are to them panties.
If a girl leans in for a kiss you almost instinctively close your eyes in anticipation.

In the hands of the right people you can get some of the most emotional experiences in your entire life from a game.
You can propably actually make the average person fall in love with pixels.

Its magic

So can movies, and yet books are still pretty popular.

Your average AAA crapfest already costs millions to produce. When you start adding in complexities, which you need if you aren't aiming to create awful uncanny valley trash, the budget becomes insane.

If VR goes anywhere, it'll be normies slotting their phones into headsets on the bus so they can be even more closed off to others while watching some shitty 3D movie. It has no place in gaming.
>>
>>342221305
The only good games are simulations like Racing or Flying Jets (Ace Combat VR) and FPS. The rest aren't really games, more so, they are just tech experiences.

I think this is the dumbest thing i have ever read in my life.
Next time you are trying to argue that something won't take off, don't argue that there is space for both markets to exist.

>Your average AAA crapfest already costs millions to produce. When you start adding in complexities, which you need if you aren't aiming to create awful uncanny valley trash, the budget becomes insane.

You don't need to have something look real enough to fool you for it to be effective in VR. Its approx the same reason people en masse fap to hentai.
The uncanny valley will not be a reason why VR fails.

I only gave you an example with people looking you in your eyes or trying to make out with you but those are just a few examples of the literally thousands of subtle bodily interactions we humans do with eachother. Not only humans, animals aswell.
Not only living things but just normal day to day usage of tools feel like they are something.

Not exactly required in amounts that would tire you out. You can still use the controller/mouse. Also virtual desktops/theater mode are going to be fucking great when we get higher resolution headsets.

It needs to take off. It's shit now and doesn't add too much to immersion but that's why it needs to. To advance and get better until we can plug our brain into this shit.

>>342242894

Prime works especially well because your head is decoupled from your gun. Aiming with your head feels weird and wrong. The holographic HUD follows your head though, feels like being Iron Man.
>>
Notice, people who own it or have tried it say it's not a fad. People who don't own it and have never tried it say it is a fad. They want it to fail out of bitterness that they cannot afford something so cool.
>>
>>342243069
I'm assuming that most VR stuff will have where you tcan choose if the camera or the reticulated or both are tied to you headset.
