I don't know if the Tales games have any form of continuity, or if they happen to be extremely self-referential. I don't want to hurt this game in particular by missing out on the previous ones, but I have no real intention of playing the others.
This is the first game in the franchise that interests me, albeit that's simply because Crow seems cool. Would I be fucking myself over in any way if I jumped on here? Bear in mind, I don't mind missing out on the good that the previous entries in the franchise can offer; my backlog's long enough without adding in all those Tales games. I'm merely asking if skipping them would hurt my Berseria experience.

No. The series has been on a steady state of decline for a while. I have bought every game the day they come out and Zestiria was a colossal pile of shit. If the game is actually good and I can see that after release, then I'll pick it up. Otherwise, nah.
I also wish they'd drop support for the PS3 already. Can't we have a game that's developed entirely for a current-generation console already? I realize the Japanese market is the biggest market for these games and they still prefer the PS3 to the PS4... So maybe Namco should spend their time developing an amazing game while the PS4 market takes off, and release a current-generation game made with Vesperia/Symphonia quality.

Crow's setting is full of manbeast things and she seems to be at least half manbeast, so her clothing is tattered and representative of a borderline feral woman.
