Vikings have quality iron, chainmail, proper helmets and weapons. Samurai don't have any good defense save shields(guess what axes are good for). Vikings would also have an easier time picking a place and time to fight.
The only advantage to the samurai is that they're select men while the vikings are just some random schmucks, but then you also have to account for the size difference. Vikings being tall even among Europeans of the time, you're looking at a half a foot and probably close to 20kg. The only remaining advantage is samurai being more used to fighting on horseback, but whether that's big enough to overcome all the rest I'm not sure.

It was mainly the Pope trying to channel their energy because during times of inactivity most Knights found challenges in each other, rather than an actual enemy. Which could range from brawls to faction warfare with each other.
When bored many European knights would arrange mock-battles which were seen by the Church and most Royalty as dirty street-brawls not befitting so called "noble" warriors, not to mention they could get injured or killed and thus be unavailable when actually needed for something.

They apparently learned the tactic from fighting the Scots, who soundly defeated English heavy cavalry using dense blocks of men with spears/pikes/whatever. So they decided to ditch the horses and do some combined arms with the archers as well because why not, which obviously worked incredibly well against the French armies that relied upon cavalry to win battles (and who were also incredibly stubborn and did this shit three times in the 100 Years' War).

Ninjas were not straight up warriors. They were assassins, spies and saboteurs. A Ninja would not fight on a battle-field, they would kill the target in their home, camp or in-between destinations.
This thing that Ninjas are incredible warriors is just a meme. It's true a Ninja is trained to fight well, but they'd probably get killed by a decent, armed Samurai face-to-face. They'd have no chance against a Knight who has more armor even than the Samurai.

They did have this neat hand guard/claw things that could be used to block a katana though, which were pretty cool. Apparently they were designed to make it look like the target had been mauled by a wild animal or something, and being able to stop a dude's 'perfect balanced master sword' with the palm of your hand was incredibly intimidating in combat.

I honestly believe Indian warriors are severely underrated. They had some of the best steel and melee weapons in the world. Heck the Romans would import steel from South India. Plus there were so many different factions in the subcontinent.

By the 13th century swords became quite cheap in Europe. Any professional fighter - which made up the vast majority of the armies since the idea of armies being composed entirely of pitchfork wielding peasants isn't true - carried a sword on their hip into battle
