I don't like defending open world games, but alpha's are generally pretty shoddy. Most of the basic gameplay features are in, and the process of the alpha is to put in the rest of the shit they want.
I'd wait until beta, where they have their gameplay features sorted out, and their main focus is bug testing and polishing.

It's a great idea for a setting, a decent world, and a gorgeous art style.
The combat is complete and utter M1 spamming trash and getting improvements for survival is linear as it gets.
All it needs is revamped combat, more playstyle customization (ie. Choose profession before you became a downer for an advantage in something.), and a less linear story
