Amiibos are fine, the issue is when they try to make them in any way important, e.g. Mario Party, Splatoon, Animal Crossing.

Yes. They saw that they could make a bigger buck making figurines out of their IPs than making new, fresh, exciting IPs. Splatoon was a nice try but they literally wanted the Destiny audience.
Any series they didn't ruin with bad gameplay design they ruined with amiibos.

The real issue is that they don't fucking keep them in stock.
Disney and Activision keep Infinity and Skylanders figures in stock frequently and have big displays in stores for them.
You're lucky if a store has any sort of display for amiibos, and if they do, the only ones available are ones from the newest wave and Smash ones that got made by the truckload.

They can't make them too important for gaming so the fans are stuck with non-mandatory DLC in figurine form.
Then you have to take into account that Nintendo gave them a collector's appeal with limited stock availability.
So now there's a bunch of fans buying basically mediocre DLC to collect and display in their homes.
Nintendo having an impending failure like Beanie Babies is not a good look. I'm not surprised Disney decided to leave the toys-to-life market.

Both Codename STEAM and Fire Emblem Fates boasted about Amiibo support, yet the only compatible one I could ever find was Ike, who I already had. Hell, neither one even patched in Roy support.

I really really fucking hate alot of their designs. Most recently for example is the Botw Horse amiibo, it has this giant support pillar under it when they could've just had the horse stand in a more stable position, like standing or something. And the Archer link, why does he have a jizz cloud when they could of just had him kneel or something. I heard Bill Trinen say during the stream that it takes around 10 months from initial conception to release, are you telling me that over the span of 10 months nobody once thought that it might look better without the retarded jello block under it? Anyone who has these, how hard would it be to saw off the block under the horse and paint in the remaining area?
