Many people bash it for good reasons, but counter point assholes, this was one of the first legitimately fun FPS from the AAA scene in fucking years. No, Flying Wild Hog does not count. (love them tho myself)
It was just the action, the feel of being a shotgun maniac, the flow of combat, the nostalgia and the "new shit" vibe and also the Soundtrack. Jesus, i want to hear it all day. Top of the cherry, the Lore made Doomguy a BADASS in all forms.
I ask myself what people saw in DOOM3 and why they wanted that back.... that game was 90% black rooms and 10% wankers whispering stories with audiologs. It wasnt bad, but it was terrible as a so to say "Doom" title. It took the "edgy and satanic horror" too fuckin far.
All the weapons were goodregular chaingun was shit but turret upgrade was godtierand had meat to them. Soundtrack was solid but not this amazing thing everyone makes it out to be, found it a little overrated much like Wolfenstein's.
Boss fights were meh.So was that blatant SEE YOU IN THE SEQUEL ending.Multiplayer was kind of shit.
Marketing almost sabotaged it.

Im betting half of preorders were due to the Vulcan preview

I hated Doom 3.
It was bad at being Doom and bad at being survival horror.

thats true the ending was utter shit
it feels like they ran out of time

>'disables' a generator by stomping on it
>the part where he's holding his foot above it impatiently while getting an explanation on why he probably shouldn't be destroying it
Campaign was a 9 out of 10 for me. Guns were nice, nightmare mode is really engaging, I liked the music and art, the graphics were some of the best this decade, etc.
Multiplayer is depressingly casual and feels unrewarding. I hit the max level of echelon 10 level 50 and haven't played in over a week, because the only good game mode is dead now. the devs dragged their feet on delivering updates. classic mode is coming and possibly even modes that disable hack modules and demons, but I doubt the multiplayer is just going to spring back to life on PC, especially considering that the MP update isn't even coming before the summer sale. people will buy on sale, try it, and drop it fast.
SnapMap needs more time to mature, the content I played the last time I tried it was lackluster.

Weirdly enough moments like that made Doomguy feel like more of a character than the protagonists of exposition-riddled RPGs.
The moment where Hayden tells Doomguy that experimenting on Hell was for the "good of humanity" and on the word "humanity" Doomguy glances at a flayed corpse in front of him, stuff like that's great, and a great example of storytelling in games.

Just started it yesterday. It's pretty fun. I never played the originals, but I read enough about it to know how not to play like a goddamn idiot. It's different than most shooters released now, so it's been interesting and I am enjoying my progress. I also appreciate it for the codex, and the fact that most of the story is implied rather than "told".

Doom is not about Doomguy caring, it‘s about thrash metal, explosions and badassery. Doom 3 did a decent job of storytelling without DG showing a hint of emotion.
Doom 3 Doomguy isn't the same guy.
Doom 1, 2, 64, 4,and every WAD ever if you believe the crazy theoriesare one ongoing story
