OP here. You'd be surprised, bud. Worked at a game store for over a year and a half, and you couldn't fathom the level of stupidity I've encountered in my first month alone.

PS2 games should theoretically be able to run on an Xbox One, seeing as it's literally just a mid-low tier x86 gaming PC.

I waited until they were done talking, then when the customer moved away from the employee, I told him he is straight up lying, the Xbox One doesn't even run 1080p on lots of games. He thanked me and decided not to get it.

>>
>>342179597
I've never worked at one, but the cringiest thing I've seen at a Gamestop was when I was in line to buy something. There's a chick picking up some game she pre-ordered and another dude in front of me who starts chatting her up and takes several minutes to comprehend that she actually plays video games and isn't just buying it for her boyfriend or something. As soon as he realizes that, he starts hitting on her in that awkwardly overbearing kind of way.

Funny but cringe-worthy at the same time.
>>
>>342181589
You don't get in trouble for turning away a potential buyer,do you?
>>
>>342181328
The Game store I work at also buys/sells phones and movies, and people get retardedly ass blasted that they can only get 50 cents for their dvd with a coffee stain on the cover, not to mention we only sell DVDs for 5 bucks a piece and they're buy one get one free. And let's not forget the people you expect to get what they paid for a phone when they try and sell it.

>>
>>342179923
I've seen people buying consoles while not having the slightest idea what a Gigabyte is. Now think about that and the stuff in OP seems pretty plausible.
>>
>>342182183
The worst that can happen is you'll get kicked out of the store, which didn't happen because I didn't do it in front of the idiot employee.
>>
I've heard surprisingly few really stupid questions, at least that stick out in my mind.

Usually get ones like
>Does [Last Gen system] play [This gen system] games?
>What's the difference between X Product and Y Product? [Proceed to tell them all the differences between them] Yeah but what's the difference?

>>342181589

>Work in electronics in a shitty Walmart
>Am completely honest with customers about products and how fucking terrible cheap electronics tend to be
>Usually end up with a better sale out of it and people love the honesty
>Couldn't give an honest fuck whether we make the sale or not, doesn't put anything more on my paycheck

It can be kinda nice sometimes.

The only thing I remember specifically was that she was getting Shadows of the Damned, which I thought was weird since it was a few years old and kind of niche.
What was cringey about was that it genuinely took him several minutes to understand that she played games. Like he had to ask her several times who she was buying the game for and when he finally worked it out he went from being confused to excitedly hitting on her immediately, no in between at all.

Oh I goddamn hate those situations.

Where the customer is blatantly taking advantage of management being complete pusses about never so much as daring to tell the customer "No", even when its entirely in the store's right as an actual policy.

Only makes it worse when I tell them to pretty much fuck off, then they ask for a manager, and said manager is only too eager to give them exactly what they want like they're a bratty child. So not only am I "the bad guy" but I have to give these little shits what they wanted.

I work at a surprisingly well stocked used game store in a fairly small city and for the most part i only get the really dumb questions around the holidays. Most of the year the worst i get is
>how much for mortal kombat X on 360
but the few days before christmas its
>where are your maario (not a typo) games for the plays-stations?
>wait, there are differnt kinds of xbox's!?
and hunched over old ladies with lists of games their 7 year old grandchildren want and its all GTA/COD.

Other than that the most notable moments are when people are desperately confused that their PS2 isnt considered an antique and i dont want to give them $200 for it. That and the kids who have watched some youtube videos and come in asking me how much it is for a SNES and this game they heard of called "Earth - Bound". They are desperately confused when i refer them to our case of expensive stuff with a complete earthbound box set priced at $750. I always love the look on their faces as i explain its one of the most famous and collectible games out there.

The people who work at my local Gamestop are a bunch of fat bald 30-something year olds who have nothing going for them and STILL are too normie to know of weeb shit like Senran so I don't give a single fuck about their opinion. I wouldn't think so poorly of them if they didn't insist on trying to make small talk with me about the games that I'm purchasing as they ring me up when they don't even know the first thing about the games themselves.

It's not like they're asking about the games, they're trying to pass it off like they are intimately familiar with them so I respond in kind and they end up not actually knowing anything about them at all and it makes the whole experience awkward and stupid.
>>
>>342183438
In the US you can return any used game to gamestop within a week as well. So you could play through used shit and return it to different gamestops. If you do it too many times at the same one within a short period I'm pretty sure they won't let you anymore.

>and hunched over old ladies with lists of games their 7 year old grandchildren want and its all GTA/COD.

Situations like this during Christmas time always make me feel bad. Like they come in all ready to get little Timmy exactly what he wants for Christmas then they look in the case and realize exactly how much all these games will cost and end up only being able to get some older game that's $40 at most.

I still remember an older lady one year who came in, picked out either the old 3DS model or a 2DS and some cheap game, I asked her about it for the sake of smalltalk. Turned out she was buying it for her neighbor's kid whose 3DS got stolen.

That's a nice memory.

True, but the DS cartridge has pink nail gloss all over the back which was a clear indication that the child had messed with the cartridge.

After reading up on it, I found out that walmart actually take returns and sell them as new. Some people take advantage of this by shrink wrapping the game back up. They cant open it, so they really cant check and see if its legit.

Funny story for you all, not negative.

>Guy who was clearly drunk goes to our GameStop.
>Asks for something completely different from CoD and Madden.
>He asks for "The BEST... The best new crazy shit you have..."
>For shits and giggles, we sell him Hatsune Miku Project Diva F.
>He returns weeks later.
>Complete weeaboo.
>Asks for more Japanese games.

We created a fat little monster, and we love him. He visits us a lot, buys games and brings us gifts.

What exactly did you guys do to get jobs in game shops? Like, did you have prior experience or anything or did you just tell them that you're a non-neckbeard who knows about videogames?

Those are the times I generally feel the worst for customers, when something is wrong with something they bought and for one reason or another I'm powerless to actually do anything for them.

>>342184912

Its always nice when you can help a parent figure out something to get when they had come in without a single clue as to what they're doing or even looking for. They're always extra grateful and thankful for it too which is nice.

Occasionally I get customers who try to tip me, I have to tell em I can't take tips but that I appreciate the thought quite a lot. They're always so sad about it afterwards.

>>342185324

Yeah we've had that happen a couple times at my Shitmart. Customer Service doesn't bother to look close at them and then they come back to us. Since most of the people we have in the department know videogames we can tell "Hey something is fucky here", but there are still some that slip by.

my shop once took in an xbox for repair and as soon as the case was seperated a ridiculous amount of roaches scattered everywhere. The owners of the building didnt want to fumigate just for one suite and since they are in their late 80's we couldnt get across the idea that we could get fumigators do do just our room. So in the end it took months of roach traps and being extremely embarrassed when a customer would see a stray roach. Bad times man

My gamestore has a regular boardgame night that's technically open but generally attended mostly by freinds of the owners who are a couple of nerdy but reletively normal guys in their early 30's. A cousin of mine was a regular at and i started going myself. Im pretty sure getting to know the people doing the interviewing personally and letting them see me in social situations where i demonstrated being a non-sperg helped a bit.

But for some more general advice, show your knowledge and your sociability simultaneously. There are plenty of super-nerds out there that can list detailed shit about tons of games off the top of their heads but smell like shit, and plenty of normal joes who are very good socially but know nothing about gaming and just need a job. You need to be a mix of both.

I'm nervous. How do I cope with my first job application?

I keep everything stock on my phones. My pictures and sim card were obviously swapped over. My old phone had my name engraved in the top with my engraving tool. This one does not.

I work at a music venue and old black people are the absolute hardest customers.
They get pissed off when you tell them to follow procedure told to them when they buy their tickets
ex.don't bring glass, no smoking, no re-entry
and you fucking never do anyone any favors because if they see you give anyone any leeway they expect the same treatment. That might not sound unreasonable but I've had people get pissed because I won't let them into employee parking after they see an employee drive in.

I don't fucking know. I always say that older Black people each expect to be the one single person who gets special treatment

I never quite understood why there was a playboy video game in the first place. Who asked for it to be made?

What grocery store do you work at?
I work at a higher-end one so the people aren't usually bad and the pay is alright.
I assume it sucks if you're in a less-than-affluent area though

Fuck man, I remember that happening when I worked there. What game was it again? The was literally a recall because the manufacturer sent out half the copies with blank CD-Rs.
