This is the problem in the first place. As long as the gaming audience is full of juveniles (SJWs, Weebs, "Mature gamers", lorefags), the industry will never realize that games are really bad at telling stories, and are much better at creating experiences.
Video games are closer to music than they are to movies. Sure, you can tell a story with your music, but concept albums are generally considered pretentious tripe. The greatest musical works of all time often don't even include lyrics, and just create atmosphere. This is similar to how the greatest games of all time have very little traditional storytelling, but create a unique experience for the player. As soon as game devs stop pretending that they're hollywood directors, we'll stop getting so many shitty games.
