Post yfw you realize that Turok 64 not only had bullet time (spirit mode) but also had bullet projectiles that take time to reach their target instead of hitscan laser bullets, AND bullets can ricochet off hard surfaces when you fire at a steep angle. WHAT THE FUCK.

Also general TECHNOLOGY thread.
>>
Come on, no one wants a cool technology thread? No, I guess people would rather post cropped porn and shitpost about Overwatch instead. The fuck happened to this medium.

I don't have anything, but have a bump to combat the shitty threads, brother.

shut up faggot pussy

Sorry bro, but it's too early for good threads. By the way ricochet is usually very unpredictable (and almost never in the same direction twice), but it's cool that turok included that feature. Something similar I like is in Counter strike where you can shoot bullets through walls. It blew my mind when I learned about this as a kid playing 1.5. I can't remember if halflife had it though since I just crowbared everything.

In Tribes 2, disks would skip off water.
In Tribes 1, players actually had a heat variable attached to them that missiles would use to seek in on you.
In Tribes 2, the heat variable was given a gauge.
In both games, virtually every weapon, including the chaingun had projectiles that travelled acorss the map, the only hitscan was the laser rifle.

In Tribes 2, being in the water would reduce your heat and drastically change your movement.

Tribes 2 could support a 256 player server with 6 teams.... No one could figure out how to make that actually fun. But it was there.
Tribes 1 and 2 were perfectly playable all the way up to 250ms of lag, and you could be totally competetive with 70ms players

>UT3/4 turns to dogshit above 75 ms.
Truly lost technology.

>shells just appear in his hand without unbuttoning the ammo pouch

woah.... so this... is the power... of the PS4...
>>
>>342172878
Are the developers retarded? Why is there like a second delay before the bullet impacts.
>>

Ooooo boy

>like a second delay
>like
It's clearly much shorter, but also notice the OP.

>Bullet time
>Slow down
Huh. I wonder why things are moving slower.

Mechwarrior had a similar feature where the mechs had a heat signature and missiles homed in on heat signatures. If a meh was submerged in water then missiles will fly off into space. You can make other mechs hotter than you to avoid missiles with a flamethrower gun. If you heat up a mech enough with like 20 flamethrowers the mech will explode due to the reactor overheating.

>>342177597
why can't video games have more world breaking mechanics
>>
>>342177597

Why hasn't there been a single game that approaches this level of destruction since?
>>
>>342177149
That's the very reason that tribes had the same feature.

Tribes was built on the starsiege mech engine, which had it to compete with mechwarrior. They just removed it from the hud for tribes, missiles still used it though.

Because the industry doesn't want to advance anything other than graphics. Most games have gotten more simplistic and have less complex features than some Super Nintendo games.

Every time I see this gif I re-install the game and play through the first couple of areas. I think that I've played through the first two areas 10 times.

Wheres the technology?
>>
>>342177851
Because physics simulation isn't the primary interest for the target demographic for games these days, people just want "strong narratives" and graphics these days

looks pretty anti-technology m8

the animation is indeed nice though
>>
some one post the fire mechanics from the alone in the dark reboot
that was the only good thing about that game
>>
In Syphon Filter 1-3, you can shoot out enemy guns with the sniper rifle, enemies fall on the floor for lack of a stun animation
>>
>>342177984
Neat. Though mech never really took off like tribes did (in my opinion) even though it was a fun game.
