Both are completely separate games. Beat one and you get a passcode to transfer over bonuses to the other.
Ages gets kinda boring after the 4th dungeon or so. Seasons is great.

This is why I hate how Pokemon handles separate games. Although rare, when another franchise does the split games like you're supposed to, it's hard not to think about Pokemon and make assumptions.

That said. They're both great, and if you like one you should really get the other as well. It's not like Pokemon where the only differences are the Pokemon.
Sure you've got similarities between Seasons and Ages but they're different games. Besides the password link system thing is absolutely great and complements both games.

The time travel mechanic was neat. But thematically it also felt like too much of a re-tread of OoT.
Meanwhile the season changing mechanic was real neat. The differences between each season may not have been as great as the differences of the past and the future, but you still got more variety all things considered. Seeing the entire world in 4 different forms instead of just 2. It was real neat.
Both games are great though.

They are on sale on the eshop right now, so I got both. I've never played them before and I've been on a Zelda binge recently. I replayed Link's Awakening last year and Zelda 2 recently. I also beat Tri Force Heroes last year and OoT 3D a couple of weeks ago. Currently, I'm replaying the original Zelda on my 3ds and I'm thinking about giving MM another chance because I didn't like it back in the day on the N64. Can't wait to give Seasons and Ages a try.

Seasons -> Ages.
Doing Ages last means you can't explore all of the map in (Ages I think) and you get a big step up in dungeon complexity.
The only big thing in Ages -> Seasons is the subplot about Queen Ambi's lover being resolved.Of course, it's best to do it the opposite way as well.

Seasons is better though, it has more variety, whereas Ages just makes everything brown.

It depends on the way you play.
I'm not sure about Ages, but for example, you get Ricky as your partner in seasons if you play through the game without buying the flute in the store. If you buy it, though, you'll get either Moosh or Dimitri, not sure who exactly.
