Are you underaged? PC was an entirely separate market when the Xbox was introduced, and windows was majority OS at the time. There's no logic to focusing on PC gaming when you already get $100 per system created and have no investment in this other huge market called consoles.

As a kid I assumed that after the XBOX, which was basically a shitty computer with a basic OS, a hard drive, a built in modem and media capabilities, M$ would just get into low-end proprietary PC building like a gaming Mac.
Instead we got the 360, which despite its success and good games was retardedly poorly designed and had an awful OS and online component.
I knew the One was going to be shit and got out of consoles after the 360, but I don't get how one of the largest megacorps could fuck up this badly and fight over an oversaturated market instead of creating a new one or diversifying.

No. There were multiple companies selling Steam Machines.
Steam Machines are literally just pre-built PC's with Linux installed instead of Windows.
They flopped because Linux has fuck all for software support.

Steam Machines died because they marketed themselves to people who already had decent gaming PCs and were perfectly comfortable sitting at their desk.
They sure as hell didn't market to the console crowd, because SteamOS doesn't really have the games they care about on it, and a half decent Steam Machine costs almost twice as much as an Xbone or PS4.
Not to mention the Steam Link, which basically gives you the same experience as a Steam Machine (if you already have a decent PC) for just a fraction of the price.

DirectX is objectively better than OpenGL due to years of development, support, and the relationship MS has with Nvidia, AMD, and game studios. I love the idea of OpenGL being great but if you've ever actually used it, it's almost always worse than DirectX.
Not only that though, OpenGL is usually faster under Windows than it is under GNU/Linux and OSX. Even if Vulkan ends up being more popular than DirectX 12, it'll still probably work better in Windows.
Microsoft is doing everything in their power to convert people into Windows 10. But i'm willing to bet that in time they will hand over the reigns to Steam and allow them to become the federation of PC gaming.

halo 5 isn't going to come to PC but halo 6 is almost a shoo-in.
halo MCC has the campaigns for everything but reach and 5 and a metric shit-ton of achievements for the campaign. the multiplayer is fun but has issues. probably won't come to PC either.
forza horizon 2 is great but likely going to be obsolete once FH3 comes out (also on PC)
sunset overdrive is fun but you can definitely tell it needed another year of development to achieve its fullest potential. for the cheap price of the game and DLC it's a great purchase. not sure if it will come to PC, if it hasn't at this point them I'm not sure it will
so there you have it. there are some more xbone only exclusives like crimson dragon and raiden V but those are far more niche titles.
personally I prefer the xbone controller to a PS4 one and know that I am better in multiplayer games with a controller than a M+KB so thats why I have an xbone. but unless you REALLY want to play halo 5, halo MCC, an older forza horizon game, and sunset overdrive, it's not worth it to get one, just save up to build a killer PC.
