I'm convinced that it's a function of the game's community size, rather than whether it's team-based or not. I play lots of games with small (unfortunately dwindling) communities - both in individual and team-based games, and these are honestly the best. When people have a vague idea of who each other are (or at least know that the community is small, so being an asshole might ostracize you from the community).
It's not about being competitive or not. Some of the games are hyper-competitive, and people get curb-stomped. Yet, there is always a sincere "gg" at the end.
When a community is large, people (team-mates or opponents) are seen as expendable. You'll never see them again, so it doesn't matter if you act like an ass and blame others.
