I like it. But it depends what you like in RPGs.
The only thing it can be compared are the DS and TES games.
DS are mainly focused on combat and not so much on actual story.
TES are focused on worldbuilding/lore and atmosphere.
WTC3 is focused on story and atmosphere, the combat is not bad, but some people will shit on it, cuz it's not good as DS.

I don't want to say it's bad, but I definitely wouldn't call it good. "Passable" maybe. I can definitely see why it's so divisive

I really liked it, on of my favorite games of 2015 along with Bloodborne and Etrian Odyssey Untold 2. It does have several flaws (like those filler points on the map that are monster nests or bandit camps or whatever) but I didn't mind them too much and the overall package was wonderful to me.
I loved TW1.
I hated TW2 (ugly, boring combat that took ages, design clusterfuck).
Should I play 3? It looks nice. Will the story make sense?

the combat is even worse than in two, and there are aeons of boring plot smothering the few good quests. waaaay too self-indulgent on the part of CDPR imo. plus the exploration is laregely unrewarding, and the character advancement and armor/item upgrades are a mess. if you love the setting and geralt as a character you might like it, but otherwise it is a pass.

It's the only game I've played for like a year. Can't really recall any rpg I've played this thoroughly, ever.
There are a mountain of flaws, but I can look past them. Haven't really been any rpgs with that high fantasy feel that was so common back int he early 00's and 90's. Not since Neverwinter Nights at least. In particular I like the objective take they have on social politics. It's there, but it isn't forced down your throat like most. Maybe that's how western Europeans think, who knows. Need more of it though.

It's both, honestly. Game received WAY more praise than it deserved but it's also something everyone should play. For RPG fans, it's got massive and extremely well written lore and setting. You'll simply find no other game in this decade even coming close to it in this department, but for the same RPG fans seeking for satisfying and deep combat mechanics, it's a glorified Assassin's Creed with Batman sauce. It's the most bland game ever when it comes to gameplay and everything from it feels extremely outdated. The hitboxes are garbage, the movement is super clunky and they even had to redo it at one point, it's not challenging in the slightest no matter the difficulty because there are a million things that just trivialize the ever living fuck out of PvE, such as Quen which you have right off the get go or alternative Axii, you'll find yourself swinging reskins of the exact same sword throughout the whole game and more. It's extremely bland and forgettable gameplay wise, but a great book otherwise. Gwent is also great.

Just finished the teleporting tower quest in Skellige, am trying to plow my way through the witcher gear diagram collection. It's absurd how much effort they put into the environmental design in places you'll likely never visit. Shit, the Bear School quest had me visit a fucking ghost castle carved into the side of a mountain that got crushed by artillery. The griffin school had me visit that archipelago castle with the bridge and underwater entrance and everything. Shit's nuts.

The story and setting are great, as long as you don't set the bar too high and expect nothing short but a masterpiece when entering the game.
It's honestly somewhat above average, but compared to the current gaming scene, it easily blows most others out of the water.

If the story pacing, quest design, open world structure and combat were better this might have been one of my favorite games of all time

In fact the game is good,but RPG elements are not a good part of it.
Your character is going to be a witcher no matter what build you chose and you are going to use same spells and same swords anyway.
The combat is not great,but it's pretty good for a game like this.
The overarching plot sucks,the small stories about normal people are far better.
Characters are propably the best part of the game,they have their own personalities and goals,most of the main characters have one of the best faces and facial expressions I have ever seen in a game.
Blood and Wine is more of the same, Hearths of Stone is pretty much the best moment of the game.
Overall it's good, pretty good if you are slavic because you are going to catch all the references in the game
