Tried the Asura Slayer and he was just ok. I want to give Gunner or Mage a shot but I heard that the M and F variants play quite differently and outclass each other completely in some regards.

Crusader is the strongest support class in the game, not the strongest DPS or shit like that. Do you like to support shit?
Male Mech and Launcher are better than female ones, Female Spitfire is better than Male Spitfire, Female Ranger have slightly lower damage pontential than Male Ranger but have more utility and cool stuff to use.
But they are all fine on their own, so just pick your favorite gimmick. F.spitfire can quadrajump, m.spitfire can summon his four girlfriends; m.launcher likes laser shit, f.launcher likes flamethrowers; m.ranger is Dante wannabe and f.ranger uses twin revolver-kusarigama things, but both rangers requires high-upgraded weapons to do big damage; m.mech have and can craft loads of suicidal robots in seconds, and f.mech also have kamikazebots but she is more focused on options/subweapons/satellite-things like these auto-shoot upgrades from shoot'em'up games.

Probably because they fucked leveling progression by making everything piss easy so weak and support classes can solo shit until they get good gear. Most of the challenge is on endgame stuff, though it depends on your class and how lucky with gear drops you are.
Neople is releasing a whole new "seasonal" server that will work as some sort of PvE competition. The server will have unique features (all classes have a new dash/evasion command, higher EXP gain, cube skills are more limited and can't be spammed to death, limited revives per dungeon, etc) and even the low level dungeons are hard as fuck, making old boss mechanics more important and dangerous again (like Old Streets and noob eater werewolf boss).

Skill resets are free and unlimited, so there is no point in worrying about builds until you hit level cap and actually have to carefully choose gear and enchants based on what you actually need. Just try out every skill.

For example, I play Witch. Witch has an ability that slams a big flyswatter onto the ground. I bound that skill to Right Stick Down. Very handy.

Yeah, I also played Demon Slayer since her release, and she was pretty bad until January patch and Second Awakening. Even then, I still had fun with her before those buffs.
The funny thing is that people are dropping their characters now, when we won't get this patch for a while. And it's not even final version of it (in recent kDnF notes it was said that Necromancy removal was too harsh on some classes, so they brought it back).
The same people who've said "lol at people who's waiting for Lv.90 Epics instead of farming now" are dropping their characters because "they'll be nerfed soon". Hilarious.

I think it's really just a joke and only people with full Dark Gothic / Mana Vortex / Tactical Commander set are waiting for Lv. 90 Epics, because, well, there's no reason for them to farm Hell Mode right now. Also, with all the returnee crap going on, you should be able to hit 20 in a day. That's what I did. A lot of classes are a torture to get through before they have their amazing skills. Some don't even get their best skills until their 30's, but it's almost always worth the pay off. Level 30 is only like 3 days in now.

Not very. Just doing the quests (which are almost always "just complete the dungeon" now) will be sufficient to get you to level 70 - 80.
It's not very P2W either. Avatars only provide you a slight boost to stats. It's like a 4-5% difference between someone completely decked out in avatars and a regular person, which is a distance that can easily be closed by skill.
