After playing every GoW game, it has gotten stale anon. By the time the third one released, I was bored of it. I rememeber finishing GoW 1&2 in one day. The third one, took me around 3 weeks. I'm glad they changed the pace plus who knows what it will be like, they literally only showed 9 minutes in what seems to be the beginning of the game.

all those super sweet combos you can do? they are cosmetic at best, you don't actually have to do them, you can mash light light heavy and get through the entire game.
good combat requires you to use combos at advanced stages to complete it.
getting rid of those long range whip attacks was the best thing they could have done, now that you are actually in harms way its going to force you to play the game properly instead of mash square to win.
I know this was said about ryse in that one review, but to me the old god of war combat was about as much fun as dialing a phone. Any change whatsoever is almost guaranteed to be an improvement.

That kid is clearly there for "feels". That's what those walking sims go for. You walk, talk, look at stuff, climb things and talk. Then you get action and do more walking and talking. It's obvious. You think the kid will be ditched? They're giving Kratos a personality. That kid will cower far away and shoot his bow while you fight. Every once in a while he will be in danger.
The best thing about GOW was it was just Kratos exploring all this great shit in solice. You're only goals were to get revenge on Ares and then take out your father Zeus. Anything got in your way you wouldn't let it stop you. It was about determination. That if you set your mind to something nothing could stop you. Not even the Gods.
Now it's going to be about raising and protecting your kid. Not that exciting.

yes but when the combat system is essentially just as deep in the first mission as it is in the last they can throw enemies at you, there isn't a skill curve.
Right away they showed off the axe attack techniques, that it can be used as a projectile weapon, after you throw it you can still fight with your fists
so already we see depth of choosing to use your ax which can be discarded for a quick kill in the distance but presumably weakens your melee abilities over all until you get it back.
That 15 second sequence is already the most well thought out example of using tactical fighting in a god of war game.
in games past the most difficult decision you would have to make is if you want to use an AoE attack or throw a long ranged one when you magic was low

The point of the game isn't combos. It's about rolling, blocking and parrying. As well as utilizing your magic and side weapons. Most enemies have far efficient ways to deal with them. If you want to roll around and just do one combo I guess with enough persistence you can beat most everything. I just don't know why you would. There is grabbing enemies, throwing them, punching them, picking them up and ramming other enemies with them. Lot's of weapon varients, different magic.
