Anyway, my first toon was night elf rogue at the start of BC. I wasn't familiar with Warcraft at all at the time and actually thought night elves seemed lame compared to Dunmer (my only frame of reference in fantasy at the time). I was waiting to buy the BC expansion where I intended to roll Orc hunter with a friend on his main server and was just fucking off until then. Wound up loving the character and eventually the race. Still main it today. Well, when I'm actually subbed anyway.
So how are rogues in Legion? It's sounding like this is the first time we've been majorly changed in forever. I mean, I tried out Nostalrius back at the beginning of WoD and honestly the pacing and feel were extremely close, sans Burst of Speed which is a fucking retarded ability.

Affliction lost all of its curses and has no viable aoe. Also they want to make us use Drain Life as a main filler.I thought they understood that this useless shit ability has to be removed, turns out - they didn't.
Half of the abilities have been turned into talents. Shit like howl of terror is in the same tier as shadowfury.
Oh and the last but not least - no more mobility for warlocks. You have to stand and spam your buttons while occasionally using Demonic Gate or Circle.

SoC is still present but you can't apply normal one + shadowburned one at once. Also soul swapping costs 2 shards, and in general, SoC damage is shit. Affliction also doesn't have Rain of Fire so we can't do shit without target.

Haha, no. Agony is still there but it doesn't count as a "curse". It wasn't replaced by Enfeeblement or Elements. Doom is Demonology only. Only "true" curses are now from PvP talents and don't get me started on that shit.

Its not that they try to nerf multidotting, its that they want us to cast shit manually. Thats the main reason why all casters get stomped by melee, by the way. The only RDPS who can cast and run right now is Hunter. Everyone else is stuck in one place.
Dwarf paladin. That was in 2005. Those that played the game back then know what paladins could do back then (nothing). Your levelling was basically waddling a mob and then watching a movie or something while the paladin killed it slowly. all it had was heals that were stronger than that of a healer but much much slower to cast and retarded levels of survivability with zero damage output. And buffs that lasted for five minutes.

Oh god, it sucked. Never did a raid or even a single 5 man heroic the entire time I played BC because no one, NO ONE, wanted a paladin in their group. So I continued to sit in town with my greens and blues.
Then the wrath pre-patch came and in my greens was able to 2 shot people with divine storm who was in full epics from Sunwell. It felt good.

Not him but despite little choice in spec for warlocks in TBC, they were a pretty well designed class in my opinion because they filled a role (or several.) They were the highest ranger dps in fights where you could stand still constantly, they had CC that was fairly strong in raids. Stacking multiple ranks of healthstones in some places was a damn nice thing, not to forget Soulstones, and you couldn't even think of doing raids without summons with the travel distances (both in and outside of dungeons) back then.
They were also used as kiters on some fights and multiple times as ranged tanks for their high threat. Also, destro only became the only viable spec in late-TBC, earlier tiers saw fair use of affli and a bit of demo.
Were they somewhat boring to play, maybe, but I don't think that's as important as class identity which doesn't exist today - you're a ranged damage dealer and that's all you do nowadays. The amount of buttons to press also matters fairly little in the end in terms of determining player skill - back in the day too you could always tell a good warlock from a bad one, even in dps (though back then it was threat management and movement minimization that mattered the most, not the rotation of buttons.)

Most of the fun in vanilla WoW came from not actually playing the game, something that's lost in modern MMO design.

Playing them now is fucking stupid, all I do is spam abilities, im no longer kiting, feigning and dropping traps, applying stings and shit to multiple mobs, managing my mana and pet, ect.
Probably everything wrong with WOW today, there are so many abilities to spam, but you don't have to think about them, you just gotta do your 'rotation' to maximise DPS, but you never really interact with what you're fighting 90% of the time, unless you're challenging yourself, like soloing bosses as a tank.

The game developers forces you to travel the entire world, but its not really forcing since you want to level up aswell.
It probably takes 25 minutes or so to run through entire the barrens from north to south on foot. The world is huge and you can actually go around and explore in this game.

One of my proudest achievements was a level 1 twink with even the most difficult to get gear like the Arena Grand Master trinket. I never lost to anyone < level 10 even with heirloom gear and my best was a level 20if you don't count the level 80 I killed after their duel with one stab.
Then they fucked me over and nerfed the abilities you get from 3 to 1 and pretty much all the OP enchants that took me forever to get (you needed very high ilvl items and an enchanter with some rare recipes).

Honestly, only interesting spec in Legion is Disc and even then it is just to see if Blizzard managed to balance it. Either it is complete shit and can't keep people alive or it is the best healer hands down because it adds a lot overall raid dps while healing.

Night Elf Hunter, Vanilla.
Had no idea what I was doing, came over from Runescape. Grinded in the starting zone way past quest / level requirements and used to farm linen cloth to sell to buy vendor gear because I hated the way your gear was completely mismatched when levelling. Ended up leaving Darnassus around level 15 I recall and running all the way to Loch Modan, dying constantly along the way - trying to hide behind fences to block mobs like Runescape; got confused why I couldn't eat food in combat etc. I truly had NO idea what the fuck I was doing, but I had great fun exploring the world. I also remember pulling that crocodile in Stormwind by mistake into the Cathedral Square that ended up being kited into the main market and killing a lot of people, general chat was going crazy trying to kill it. Remember witnessing the quest in Stormwind keep kick off, the demon arriving in front of the city to kill everyone. I stopped playing though because the game confused me to hell and the community wasn't very helpful.
I ended up coming back when BC was released, made a Blood Elf Paladin, began to make actual progress in the game - was questing properly, was doing dungeons with groups. From what I remember though I quit the guild I was in over some drama, and they hounded and harassed me - so I quit once more.
Didn't come back until end of Cataclysm, been playing since on a number of alts. These day I mostly main a Goblin Rogue, Forsaken DK and a Human Paladin.

This is what the game's missing now, leveling should be a ladder that teaches you your class and the game overall. You don't learn shit when you just one hit quest mobs or blast through 5-mans within minutes with AOE spam.

Agreed, it used to be rare to meet someone at max level who didn't know their class well. There were always some people who got by without utilizing all their abilities and maybe they never got a good rotation down but they were at least familiar with their class and could learn to get better very quickly.

Switched to Alleria at the insistence of some friends and jumped around on a bunch of different characters. First to 70 was a Human Paladin.
Sold/bought several accounts after that...Tauren Warrior, Dwarf Hunter etc.
Never really stuck with anything, went to college just before Wrath and kinda lost interest in the whole thing.
Came back to mess around for free (level 1-20) and the whole game is so different and weird to me.
