I think there is part of the house we haven't gotten into yet. I think you actually kill something with the hatchet and you use the dummy finger. I have suspicion that the finger is used on a fingerprint scanner to open something. I think the finger has been tampered with which would explain why the drawer it's found in has blood in it. I think the order of events is: Fuse, Boltcutters, VHS, axe, finish video, key into door but not opened, then the finger is used. Looking at the photo may change something but I honesty don't know. I feel like the board changes one based on what you interact with so where people are messing up the most is meeting the pre-reqs for the finger to work because they get tired of walking around and think they've looked at things a thousand times. People don't seem to get that after you interact with possibly anything, things change and you should be looking all over again.

I have a legit fear of mental patients. The game was a fucking nightmare for me. I suppose its all a matter of what you find scary. I for one, have the uncanny ability to be fully immersed in what ever game I'm playing. Alot of people just do not have that ability. Its not a bad thing, but so many people sit and study whats behind the screen instead of whats on it. Try just letting yourself go sometime. Get head phones. Think from the protag point of veiw. It actually makes gameing as whole better.

I don't think it's a standard key though. I think it's not what it appears to be. Why would shoving or fitting a key into a prop make it bleed? It wouldn't. Attaching someone's finger to it would have blood involved though, which is why I think there's a real finger tip on it, and the scanner is not a prompt, but you examining or using it where you wouldn't think to.

Not really. I got lost for quite a while in that section where you have to turn on the power generator in the slightly flooded room.
After running around for multiple minutes with that one guy, hiding in the same locker over and over, and realizing how dumb and non-threatening everything was the atmosphere was pretty much ruined. I dropped the game for a really long time and came back and still had to force myself to finish it.The 'breaking point' was when I realized that even if he was not alerted to where you were or your presence, if you hide in a locker for whatever reason the A.I. will have them go to your location to try and unsettle you.
