I recently got the limited edition(with the soundtrack and artbook) and so far I like it. It's probably the only episodic game I've enjoyed in the past few years.
I liked it, I personally didn't take it to seriously which probably helped. Max a CUTE

Haven't played it. I tried Walking Dead but it pissed me off how it couldn't decide whether it was a game or an interactive movie and made me do these shitty "gameplay" sequences that weren't enjoyable in anyway and were really just there so they could call it a game and pad the length.

Yeah. There's optional collectibles and some exploration elements.
I actually enjoyed it a lot more than Walking Dead for this reason. It didn't feel like 100% dialogue where you just walked from scene to scene occasionally picking up an item. There were things to do and miss (like if you don't observe Kate's family picture, you can't talk to her about it when she tries to sudoku).

It's a budget priced, physically released game with good extras. The game itself has a reasonable interesting story with cute girls and a comfy ost, if you think this is the thing killing vidya we won't agree.
I enjoyed exploring the environments and finding all of the little things you can observe. Much better than the Telltale games in this regard. I'd say its a decent adventure game.

Recently played through it.
I think most of my doubts vanished when Max put on her headphones and went to the bathroom to try steady herself to deal with her anxiety. I used to do the same shit in highschool, and the scene just felt incredibky genuine to me.
From there I really grew to care about most of the characters, and Max became one of my favourite video game heroines. She's just extremely relatable in a lot of ways for me despite being a different sex and having super powers, and I was really rooting for her the whole way through the story.
The game is still deeply flawed in some ways, but it was well written and the presentation was great, which was enough for me.

Countless problems in this game could be solved by using her powers but the game won't allow you because it's so tightly coded. I liked it up to a point half-way through I won't spoil and I haven't picked up the game again since.
