I kinda' hate 5, honestly. It's 3-but-better, but 3 was so much comfier to me. It had really a really simple, colorful art style that blew the previous two games away, and it had a simple story: four kids playing adventure and actually go out and end up becoming heroes, saving the world from literal evil incarnate. Job selection was railroady, which sucked at the end, but I think it was all part of the game's experience.
Compared to 5 which constantly stops you from playing for "plot." I get it, Ass is the destined one and all of his friends are secretly nobility, give me a fucking break... And he acts like such a fucking dumb douche bag, anytime he said or did something, all I could think was, "What? I wouldn't do that. Why am I doing that?"
And your enemy is a...tree? Well, y'see, there were these heroes who uh...banished a bad dude in some place, but...his evil turned a tree into...a dude and he's going to open a portal to some place...it's bad- What?
I was going to do like a marathon of the entire FF series and even after getting through the fucking bug-filled slog that is 1 and 2, I just couldn't finish 5. I got to the part where you have a fucking list of chores- I mean dungeons you have to go evacuate to get the legendary weapons, and I was leveling every job just to say I did, when I decided to look up a walkthrough and found out that I missed out on like the strongest weapon in the game and several summons thanks to arbitrary nonsense. I know these complaints can be applied to several games in the series, but I just couldn't take it anymore. Haven't touched the game since.
