Any item that says "material" can be used to make shit. Take every new material you find to the guide to find out what you can make with it. Don't start by digging straight down - explore to the left and right and chances are you will find some naturally formed caves to explore. For the love of god, dont start out on expert mode with a medium/hardcore character - save that shit for when you know what you are doing.

A great adventure game that also lets you make beautiful houses if you have the patience and creativity. Don't listen to this faggot >>342074518 and do not play on expert for you first playthrough. All you need to know is that NPCs will only come if there's a valid house available for them, and they're really important for your progression. Here's some valuable advice.
Cultivate Daybloom as soon as possible. See those little yellow flowers that maybe drop seeds when they flower during the day?
They make some really useful potions, like regeneration and ironskin.

At the earliest opportunity, set up clay pots for your daybloom seeds, and periodically harvest.
The more pots the better.

There are seven kinds of herbs in all with different blooming conditions, all have their uses but only will be far more useful than others depending on your needs.

M8 Terraria is the light of indie gaming that makes all of the early access and SJW shit worth it.

Spending an entire day gaming with my buddies, building minecarts and killing bosses, shittalking the dumbass who died and changing his gravestone to read he died of a ruptured anus, setting TNT traps along a path I know he's gonna walk, building the fanciest house and other buildings, it's the only time in the last 6 years I've truly felt the same way I did when I was gaming as a kid.

What Minecraft should of been, and everything more beyond that.

A genuinely fun sandbox game that takes after a craze but knows how best to separate content between its differing sides, so neither either lacks and, in fact, compliments one another in a beautifully simplistic fashion that can be expanded upon freely by the player if they so wish.

Really, I might be saying a whole lot more than this game should be getting, but in all honesty, for how cheap it is as well as how much shit you're getting for that price, it's a fucking solid deal.

Don't worry about the difficulty of Expert until you know what you're doing, always go for your characters dropping coins on death (anything above that is faggotry tier, save for Hardcore, which is definitely fun), take shit to the Guide and talk with him about all the stuff that you can make, because it's a confusing, but very well thought out bunch.

And ultimately, prepare to have some fucking fun, shitbag

You don't need to find everything though. No is likely going to know that Chaos Elementals have a super low chance to drop one of the most useful items in the game or that the ocean has a secret boss, but that isn't needed to progress through the game.

From start to Moonlord nothing in Terraria is cryptic in order to advance. The guide gives you all you need to advance.

Honest answer? It's worse. The rpg mechanics are pretty standard, the best innovation it has is being able to toggle digging 2x2, 3x3, etc size blocks at once. Things like Planet Centauri try to do more things different like taming and becoming creatures, Crea is a shallow clone with skills and rpg mechanics that feel tacked on

>and do not play on expert for you first playthrough.

NO

Start with expert.

I wish I was in your shoes and had the oportunity to play the game fresh on expert mode, it is the definitive way to play the game.

Just don't play medium or softcore, unless you're planning on doing a gimmick run with objectives or something, and even then, do that after you've played the game once.
>>
>>342074269
Best weapons of the game are only found from killing the strongest creatures of the game

That sword/gun/wand you like is only good for a particular part of the game and it will never be relevant later on and remains stagnant

Mining is slow and boring early game but once a drill is picked up everything becomes tedious and boring as every prefab becomes chest full of low level items you cannot use

Structure building is fun and interesting, however prefabs are simple, bland and easily repeated

Grinding is tedious and an artificial game duration booster

Pirate this game it's shit and red doesn't give a fuck about it
>>
>>342078272

1.2 was a fucking godsend for the game. 1.3 was great but I wish it had more than just Pillars and Moonlord when it comes for progression, not to mention that the last tiered armor have no use since at that point you are already done with the game.

I hope 1.3.3 does something like Duke Fishron as an extra boss again so we can use the new equipment. Maybe finally an alternative for the Hallow.
>>
>>342078385

>NPC talking about some old man at a dungeon? Wait a minute, I remember that/Oh, I better go find that
>That dungeon sure was cool, I wonder what lies down at the bottom of the world

Lather, rinse, repeat.

The best part is that everything in the world can be discovered just by running and mining around. I found out about the eye just because I found the Suspicious Looking Eye in a chest and got my ass handed to me by summoning that because I was admittedly curious.

Everything's accessible as shit, aside from the rare shit that's meant to make a single run more unique, man. I never had a single problem following the flow of Terraria, since that shit really does it well.

>>342078272

It's so fucking weird how much of a gigantic gap between updates utterly changed the game and turned it on its head, so to speak.

Blatant lie, especially with the shit you can find while fishing and else.

>That sword/gun/wand you like is only good for a particular part of the game and it will never be relevant later on and remains stagnant

True but there is always a bunch of new shit to try so it isn't that much of a problem. I wish the game had an upgrade system ala Dark Souls though.

>Mining is slow and boring early game but once a drill is picked up everything becomes tedious and boring as every prefab becomes chest full of low level items you cannot use

Mining isn't needed most of the time, caves are very natural and you can find a bunch of shit with Minecarts. If you know what you're doing the only ore you will need to mine is Clorophyte, and that's shit easy to find.

>Structure building is fun and interesting, however prefabs are simple, bland and easily repeated

True, pyramids were a fucking disappointment.

>Grinding is tedious and an artificial game duration booster

You don't need to grind to progress through the game though. It definitely needs some sort of luck mechanic to increase item find and shit but it isn't detrimental to the game unless you really need stuff like the Anhk charm or the RoD.

Eh, the idea of Terraria with throwaway worlds really appealed to me.

The fact that they did nothing of merit with the concept, and made the rest of the game shit too wasn't a nice pill to swallow.

I think they're updating it to version 1.00 soon, I'll give it a try then.

But seriously, why the fuck wouldn't you make terrain malleable by enemies if you have throwaway planets? I'm not saying on each planet, but having it so enemies could blow up the ground you stand on would really improve shit, and it's not possible with Terraria because it would fuck your world up.

>>342080626
>But seriously, why the fuck wouldn't you make terrain malleable by enemies if you have throwaway planets? I'm not saying on each planet, but having it so enemies could blow up the ground you stand on would really improve shit, and it's not possible with Terraria because it would fuck your world up.

That would actually be rather interesting.

Imagine if a boss like destroyer actually burrowed tunnels.
>>
>>342079957
You can craft things that make the background stay, kind of like the water fountains the Witch Doctor sells.
>>
>>342080707
Otherworld is an alternate universe to Terraria and has more tower defense gameplay features.
>>
>>342080707
The problem Terraria has, and has had from the very beginning, is that it was coded in a horrible hateful miserable ass framework, which limits fucking everything, If you can think of a problem the game has or has had it's because of Microsoft XNA, which isn't even supported anymore. Also, all the fixes to these problems are just workaround on that horrid limiter, which means the game will never ever run right properly, no matter what.

The idea for otherworld was to make terraria with programming language that didn't suck balls, but that might've changed along the way.

Terraria 2 is a sequel, also with a proper game engine.

Original team never specified that Red's update was Terraria's last update...it was nust Red's last update so he can move on to work with Terraria 2.

Otherworld is a spinoff, and further Terraria updates are in the hands of b-team, while Red focuses on Terraria 2.
>>
>>342082602

Well they said that they are working for content for the Underground Desert (which is shit at the moment) but its patch was split in two so it could come out faster.

1.3.3 will be UD stuff, we still don't know what 1.3.2 is. People are speculating that it is going to be a side event that they mentioned a while back.
>>
>>342082602

I hope more bosses per tiering.

Like each armor set should have a bunch of alternate bosses so you feel like you can hold on to your sets longer before moving on.

feels like a waste to include shit like unique armor set mechanics (Chrlophyte crystal, meteor set making space gun use no mana, ect.) and have them replaced every boss fight.

You will just want to dig down and explore but then realize you can't because stuff will always kill you. >trying badly and largely failing at making a house that doesn't get attacked outside of floating it(and when I do that I end up with a brick shitbox that looks even worse than my normal attempts which at least tend to have natural look due to being hobbit holes of opportunity)

My only two gripes are more or less cosmetic. I'd like it if surface water didn't become dark so quickly, and if vines didn't block light sources. Fuck it though, maybe tomorrow I'll scrounge the house chests in my worlds for supplies, start a new world, and try again.

On top of the pit i build a huge house for my npc.

Then is build out the pit with platforms and stonebrick walls with torches attached to the site.

If this thing is fully build out inadd some doors inside the pit to start expanding left and right.

Eventually i'll add some mine carts if i can dig straight enough.

Only spreads on dirt blocks with grass, sand, ice and rocks. Just find a place between your base and the corruption/crimson/hallow and build a 5-6 blocks wide wall of material that doesn't change (wood works). Won't be possible to stop underground corruption/crimson/hallow spread and you might start losing your jungle at some point (an extremely slow process, you'll be done with the game before it gets completely destroyed), but that generally hardly does any damage to your base.

Terraria's a slow burn in the beginning, but it improves as you collect more shit. Some run-fast boots, a double jump, gear that lets you cling to the wall, a magnet that collects mana stars from downed enemies, a band that makes your health regenerate faster. Beat the goblin army and you can find a goblin npc underground that sells rocket boots and a tinker table that can combine accessories. Get 200 health and each night has a chance of spawning the first boss randomly, unless you summon it on purpose. Use purification powder from the dryad (unlocked as an npc that can move in from beating any boss) to de-evil the stone in the evil biome and make it mineable, or throw bombs to do the job for you, smash orbs or hearts to get weapons or accessories from the evil biome's ground, smash three to fight the evil biome's boss, and so on. Move on to the jungle, find shit in jungle shrines or find bees and kill the queen bee, all for more equipment. Or move on straight to the dungon, talk to the old man at night and kill the giant floating skeleton, then plunder the dungeon's depths.

Then you can go all the way underground into the Underworld, find all sorts of neat shit down there, and then fight a literal wall of flesh that follows you from one side of the map to the other and, once defeated, unlocks the remaining 80% of the game.

It really snowballs as you get more gear and faster mining tools and more confidence in your ability to explore.

Does this Ikuy slut do anything worth looking at or does she think people like her for her video games and not because they want to see her big fat ass?

There's actually a pretty simple solution.

Enemies that phase through walls but don't fly have a limit to how high they can go. Something like 5 blocks, and they can't grab on to anything higher, so the lower area being a mess hall is the best way to go. Else, if you have a relatively small into-the-surface gulag, you can make a moat of air to the sides of your base in the ground that forces wraiths and reapers to fall down through the air, and work it out so that they've got no chance but to fall into a 5 or 6 space tall moat under your gulag, unable to do anything to escape short of leaving your base entirely.

whats even the problem with npcs dying? they just respawn in a couple of minutes and go back to the house

>poor boss balancing
Elaborate, please.

If you fish crates, you don't need to smash altars, which means the only corruption/hallow that will exist in your world is the pre-existing stuff and the giant V in the middle of your world, making it a pretty simple matter to cleanse or contain.

Some people like to keep their characters for alive as long as possible, and nobody likes losing all their npcs when they want to buy shit the next day, and it's not even guaranteed that all npcs will spawn the next day.

Furthermore, in multiplayer servers, npcs are frequently unable to teleport to their homes at night because people idle in the base, leading them to just getting killed again.

>>342105612
only two npcs offer anything worthwhile and they show up really early, everytime ive ever collected npcs ive already got everything ill need up til the end from exploration alove before the first invasion even begins. this immersion shit is so pointless, ill just leave the thread

I never fight anything in or near the house, I set up this trap stack a few hundreds blocks west of the house, most invasions can simply be waited out

also, on a side note, are there any weapons similar to the magnet sphere? it's really fucking cool, but the damage output is lagging behind now

>>
>>342107253
You can make serverside characters if you're worried about griefing.
And most people don't really give a fuck either way, as any world is a throwaway world, pretty much.
>>
>>342107253
Do not be afred of grieff. I am people who does play this online and I not encounter grieff because play with friends.
