Shitty execs and shareholders.

Nothing at all, they're making more money than ever, which is the point of any business.

Are they really? Pachinko business is not going well in Japan recently.

Pachinko. Anyone with a brain saw this coming.

Konami never made that much money in the first place and most of their games were ridiculously buggy. Now they're making money.

What was Konami thinking? Is there really more money in Pachinko than in video games? I guess Pachinko machines cost less to make...

Konami, home....

Less cost for higher profits, seems like a sound decision to me. Kids weren't exactly begging their parents for the latest Konami game.

Have you never met a problem gambler anon?
I've known people who pour literally tens of thousands of dollars into their slot machine of choice every year.

Konami isn't reliant on pachislots in any way. Never once have they said anything about focusing more on pachinko, putting out more machines or whatever. The idea that Konami cares about pachinko is a literal internet meme, and people believe it because they're incapable of listening or doing research

Konami makes insane money from mobile shit and arcade games.

Japan having the worst taste on the planet and playing fucking pachinko.

>>

You seem to forget that during the 80s and 90s they were the most ridiculously consistent developers out there, beating out even Capcom in quality and franchises (fighting games aside).
>>
>>
Selling out to Sony.

People don't want to admit it, but the more a third party sold out to Playstation back in the nineties, the worse off they became. It's really not a coincidence that Capcom, Konami, and Square Enix have fallen on such hard times.
>>
Nintendo should have bought Hudson.
>>
>>342065881
What the fuck does Sony have to do with their own downfall?
Capcom has way too high expectations in sales, Square became shit after the merger, and Konami never was a blockbuster name, they just always broke even.
>>
>>342066071
You're shitting me right?
Konami was fucking huge in Japan. Goemon had more games and cameos in other games then Mario at one point.
>>
>>342066163
But it never sold more than 10 million. lol
It's fucking dead now, and was never popular in the west.
>>
>>342060605
Hudson killed themselves. Hudson and Konami were always close, and when Hudson fell on hard times in the late 90s/early 00s Konami was the only one willing to bail them out. For a quick cash infusion, Hudson traded 50% of their company in exchange for some Konami shares. They blew it and a few years later they traded the other 50% for a few more Konami shares. They blew that too, went bankrupt, and to this day Konami is holding the Hudson bag.

The sole reason why Konami owns Hudson's shit is that no other company was willing to fund it. Hudson was going down the tubes and literally no one but Konami wanted to put more money into it.
>>
>>342059347
Greed is a major factor to their downfall.
>>
>>342065616
Their games are their products, and products exist to be sold.

In order to make money, Konami has to sell products.
>>
>>342066071
Sony was a big part of all of those mistakes. Constant exploitation, never any real constructive building which has led to the degradation of businesses that rely on them.
>>
>>342059347
imho, they fell from the wayside. It's not so much their fault, it's not ours either. Though they produced some of the best games ever made, there simply wasn't enough room for them, sega, capcom, namco, nintendo, tecmo and all the other big japanese devs that have whittled down over the years especially when the west entered the market in such a huge way.

Konami systematically exiled all its best talent through oppressive work conditions, taking full control of all rights to creators ideas, serious underfunding of titles and more. During the PS1 and PS2 days, this reached a breaking point for some people (such as the creators of Suikoden and DDR). They left. But because their major series like Castlevania and MGS weren't affected, most fans didn't complain. In fact, they didn't even notice there was a problem.

Fast forward to the last ferw years, and suddenly Kojima is leaving due to the same issues. And the fans went crazy with anger. But it was too late. Konami had basically killed its gaming division back on the PS2 and this was just the ultimate result. Getting rid of Kojima was the last thing they had to do, since everyone else had already left and all their other series were dead.

Konami saw more money in focusing on Pachinko and outside investments. Which technically, there is. But the reason their gaming divisions didn't make as big of profit is not the fault of the video game market or the people who worked on the games. Its entirely the fault of the people who withheld financial support from the gaming department for the last five gens. Considering the absolutely horrible conditions, its amazing how people working under Konami actually made some of the best games ever.

I personally blame valve.

Pachinko and asinine amounts of grinding for content in their arcade games.

>Capcom has way too high expectations in sales
All three of the companies you named (and Sega) can be faulted for not localizing games because they didn't meet an unrealistic sales expectation.

>Square became shit after the merger
Squaresoft was falling apart before the merger. Hence why the merger was needed. Enix didn't magically make them bad. Squaresoft just spend half a billion dollars on games that never reached the sales of FFVII (and a movie). So of course the company fell into debt. But after the merger, they didn't learn their lesson. They kept making the exact same mistakes. If Enix and Edios weren't there making money, Squaresoft would have died with the release of FFXIV.

>and Konami never was a blockbuster name
Now you're just being ignorant.
>>

>If Enix and Edios weren't there making money, Squaresoft would have died with the release of FFXIV.
Funny how Enix execs were in charge after the merger, not to mention the sudden milking of Squaresoft IPs, something Enix likes to do with Dragon Quest.

>Funny how Enix execs were in charge after the merger
After the merger, they put Wada in charge of the combined company. The same Squaresoft employee who led them to need a merger. And eventually led to the FFXIV disaster. He 'retired' soon after.

You're an idiot and you should kill yourself.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Square_Enix

>The original Square Enix Co., Ltd. was formed as the result of a merger between Square Co., Ltd. and Enix Corporation on April 1, 2003. Each share of Square's common stock was exchanged for 0.85 shares of Enix's common stock. At the time, 80% of Square Enix staff were made up of former Square employees. As part of the merger, former Square president Yoichi Wada was appointed president of the new corporation, while former Enix president Keiji Honda became its vice president and the founder of Enix, Yasuhiro Fukushima, was made the honorary chairman and largest shareholder of the corporation.

Wada, the head of Squaresoft, was put in charge. While Fukushima, the head of Enix, retained a majority share in the company and just played golf.
>>
>>342069271
Reminder that before the merger, mainline FF was already at 11 while mainline DQ, which started earlier, was at 7.
>>
>>342070969

And funny enough, during talks for the merger, FFX and Dragon Quest VIII were being made. So while Squaresoft was going through tons of financial problems and Enix still was a separate company, they made some of the highest cost games for each side. No idea why the Square side went total stupid again after the merger, while the Enix side just went on with business as usual.
