Is there even anywhere you can request classics like that or something?

Parappa didn't hold up at launch. It's a "rhythm" game, but the queues to hit buttons do not correspond to any rhythm of the song. It fails at the most basic level.

Still a great memorable game, but failed at the most basic level from a gameplay perspective. I had been playing bass for years whne I picked it up, I certainly had rhythm-- I couldn't understand what the game wanted me to do and I couldn't pass chop chop master onion

There definately is a delay between when you'd think to press the button and when they actually want you to; for me though, it ended up making sense and didn't bother me past level two. Lots of people talk about this delay on the later releases blaming hdtvs or something, thats just how the game was.
>>
>>342052598
its just poorly designed they didnt know what they were doing with the gameplay. i mean, what a surprise that the japs don't understand rhythm. huge surprise.

for what its worth, its probably the game that exists with 10/10 characters and 1/10 gameplay

the super furious button mashing shit they play has nothing to do with rhythm, it has to do with pattern memorization, its no different from touhou and that shit.

It's two "duets" but you can play them single player.

You can mash buttons completely out of time in Guitar Hero and pass songs with ease, but be a fraction of a second off the beat in beatmania, and it's a stage fail for you. Which one was more about the rhythm again?

Also it's not pattern memorization, it's reflexes and muscle memory. Like every other video-game ever? Including Guitar Hero?

>being this fucking casual

>You can mash buttons completely out of time in Guitar Hero and pass songs with ease

no, you really can't. and I don't care how close the timings are, I wasn't discussing how hard the games are. the jap games are pattern repetition, the western games are response in realtime. japs learn to repeat the patterns with exact timing; it isn't rhythm, it's repetition. that is what japs do.

and yes, if not playing jap rhythm games makes me casual, i'll be casual. I'd definitely rather be casual than be a fan of the type of games that outright indicate autism and social deficiency. There is not a single normal person who loves those jap rhyhtm games.

I just got the psp version and didn't know if it was me or not but it felt off.

I want to get into rhythm games and thought it was a good start, the closest thing to a rhythm game I have played was mother 3 with the comboing I enjoyed a lot. Any other suggestions? Gitaroo man looks really cool but I heard its really hard.
>>
>>342054102
i play real instruments bro. i'm not a "fan" of any game, guitar hero games are fun and the jap games aren't

the only thing that can make this genre fun is using an instrument controller, if you are one of the keyboard arrow key retards playing those hyperspeed games on pc, its literally autism

there are things that are literal autism and youre so used to seeing the word you dont understand. playing jap rhythm games is LITERAL ***ACTUAL*** AUTISM

playing guitar hero games is something i did with friends while hanging out until they got old in 2.5 years.
>>
>>342054581
guitar hero bro. listen to the real person in this thread not the people who base their lives around liking japanese games because they are japanese games

i heard great things about guitaroo man and never played it, of course ih eard great things about parappa too.

it looks like the gameplay of guitaroo man is moving the analog stick different directions........would be considered a flash game by todays standards

just play guitar hero with a guitar controller its really not that hard. these games are meant to be social, playing them alone is autism

One other thing which I always wonder, because it always comes up -

Arcade shooters and music games get called "literal autism" all the time, yet no literally autistic people play them.

No, more like Jamiroquai, Macross 88-92, and other funk & funk variety artists. Good guess, though.

Most of these are underrated to people who don't play rhythm games, so I'll just list them all.
Beatmania IIDX or Lunatic Rave 2
Pop'n music
K Shoot Mania (or Sound Voltex if it's available at your arcade)
Project Diva
Taiko no Tatsujin (Most people know this one)
There's also Audiosurf, although I wouldn't really consider that a rhythm game.
DJMAX is a PSP rhythm game, I think.
Dance Masters for Xbox 360 on the Xbox Live Arcade. requires a kinect.

Rock Band is pretty fun and easily a more accessible title just because it's not an obscure older title and has a lot of songs you've probably heard already. I prefer Rock Band Blitz though as far as an actual rhythm game goes though.

Project Diva F is also great, and even though I don't care about vocaloids (or even the other games, despite buying F2nd almost day one I've barely played it in comparison) I still managed to drop over 100 hours into the game just because of how fun it is. Easily my favorite game from 2013 even if it'd never show up on any "best of" lists.

Elite Beat Agents is a masterpiece as well though if you're afraid that Gitaroo Man will be too hard then you might be better off putting it off till later. And don't play Osu, it just isn't the same in my opinion. It has none of the soul of EBA/Ouendan. Just feels like you're hitting buttons and not playing a real game of the series.

I've got the PS2 one and it's kinda neat. Tried it in Yakuza 5 and also liked it. Never really played either for any period of time though.

I want to like it more but I guess I just can't be assed. Doesn't help that those are pretty much the only stateside releases of this game.

Also wish I could play pop'n music. Those games look cool but they're just NEVER EVER tier for me I guess.
>>
>>342060473
Also forgot to mention Rhythm Heaven Fever. Never played any of the other games besides the DS one which I wasn't a fan of but it's excellent. Really forces you to get into the rhythm and not rely on screen cues too which is great.
