Is this just a gimmick?
no because there are high budget games being developed for it, namely RE7 and EVE valkyrie
>No PC support
Why even bother?
The word "gimmick" literally has no meaning.
Do I need to pre-order this or can I just walk in on day 1 and get one.
>>342040213
I've been telling you that ever since people started getting excited over it. I'm old enough to know when something isn't going to take off, or will just be a short lived trend. Apparently most of this board is not.
>>342040941
>a trick or device intended to attract attention, publicity, or business.
Well there goes that theory. Next we're going to talk about your poor use of the word "literally".
>>342040213
Even if it is, gamers will still buy it.
I.e. Powerglove, zapper, oculus rift, Kinect.
>>342040213
Has this sold out? I have a preorder and am considering keeping it for scalp bux.
Guys there's so many games coming out for it... this could be VRs chance to shine.
>>342041782
You can't pre-order it on Amazon right now.
>>342041813
Can you name any fully fledged games that aren't Resi 7 or Eve? (Both of which are nowhere near coming out)
This is the problem with VR, every game we've actually seen and is coming out any time soon is mini game tier.
>>342040213
Yup.
>>342041717
the powerglove was a huge failure i thought
>>342040543
>re7
>gimmick way to play the game can play it all normally
>eve valkyrie
>trusting ccp to actually put money towards it after the way they botched dust and how fucked up world of darkness' production was before it was cancelled
>>342040941
what is 3d
>>342040213
>is this just a gimmick?
like everything else related to VR, yes.
>>342041386
VR for gaming is gonna flop for sure, but it will be a success for porn
VR seems niche of the niche. From what I heard, lateral movement (ie turning in a FPS) causes motion sickness, which rules a very popular genre out. What's left is racing games and flight or space sims, anything with a cockpit I guess.
>>342040213
NO WESTERN SUMMER LESSON = NO BUY
REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
>>342042417
Oh definitely, I have no doubt about that. VR most definitely has its uses, it's just that normal video games aren't one of them. Would be kinda cool for horror games though as long as they weren't gimmicky. Something like Fatal Frame would be cool.
>>342042073
Oh it was. For some reason though, we still have a nostalgic liking to it though. Hell some gamers have it just to have it.
Maybe. If Ace Combat is good, it will be worth it for me.
>>342040770
Sony may bring it to PC, though nothing is confirmed yet.
http://www.pcgamer.com/playstation-vr-possibly-coming-to-pc/
>>342042417
>>342042849
what the fuck are you smoking anon? The powerglove is reviled as a gimmicky piece of shit that didn't fucking work. It was literally a marketing piece and only existed in North America. That's how bad it flopped. I know plenty of older gamers with an NES, but I don't know anyone with a power glove.
From the impressions I've read of people who've tried it, and the fact that there are a lot of big industry names backing it, I can't see VR failing completely. Everyone who's tried it seems to come away a believer in the technology.
We're gonna need to rely on early adopters to power through the initial few generations before shit really gets good though.
Can I play porn vr games with it? I'm asking for a friend
Is there any way to pirate VR games currently? I'd be interested in purchasing the tech, but holy shit are the games expensive.
>>342043037
It's not gonna die, but it's not going to become anything more than niche either. It costs too much and has way too small of an install base to have big exclusives tied to it.
>>342043213
Unless they bring it to PC, no.
>>342040213
It'll be amazing for first person gamesand pornand I hate most first person games.
Everything else it'll just be meh.
>>342043037
those people will just have to see as time goes on if it's worth the $400+ price tag
Yeah, but this one is a better gimmick
>>342043002
>Ace Combat
Mah nigga
>>342040213
If they leave it as PS4 only, it's a gimmick. If they add PC compatibility, it's a good headset.
SONY WINS AGAIN
>>342043004
I said it was a piece of shit and nobody bought it. I was saying some gamers bought it for nostalgia reasons.
>>342043793
what does that have to do with anything?
>>342043767
doesn't PSVR has a smaller PPI though? are these comparisons accurate?
>>342043862
Because I said gamers will buy useless gimmick, just to buy them.
>>342043767
Sony always wins, baby.
>most accessable VR headset cause most people own a PS4
If this fails, VR fails.
>>342044101
but if they're buying it for nostalgia purposes, or collecting, they're not buying it because they think it's a cool gimmick. They're buying it for nostalgia.
You don't fucking buy an expensive figurine to use it as an action figure.
>>342043213
> I'm asking for a friend
>>342044226
actually the most accessible VR is SamsungVR or Google Cardboard.
Doesn't PSVR not have headtracking too?
>>342043968
ppi isn't everything
>>342040213
>>342044236
They don't only buy shit for nostalgic reasons, some gamers just buy shit because it's the new and greatest thing. These are mostly causal gamers. To say gamers don't fall for gimmicks is bullshit and it's a sad reality.
>>342044429
It is when you're directly comparing an image.
>>342042593
This
>>342044713
But your example is flawed, as people DIDN'T buy the powerglove. on top of that. If you had said the kinect, you'd be a little more correct as it had very healthy sales despite a fairly steep price.
Stuff like the Xbone proves that not everyone will fall for a gimmick, especially if that gimmick comes with a hefty price.
>>342040213
It'll do well, the PlayStation brand is strong right now, could well be the only VR Headset that gets games people actually want to play.
>>342040213
Yes VR as a whole is a stupid gimmick that all the normies are gonna go nuts for and then drop in a year after the initial novelty wears off
Gross, I don't trust vr without proper room scale, accurate controls, and basically everything the five has.
Its gonna flop when Normie's realize all it is is Google cardboard for ps4
Now the Five has a good chance though, shit seems really cool, how you can actually move and be immersed, instead of just move your head here and there.
Once we have that and that treadmill thing vr is no longer a meme. Oh, and a price drop, time for PC hardware to catch up, and games,
Is VR fun?
>>342045386
Fuggin autocorrect
>inb4 me phone posting meemee xddd
Vive,
>>342045393
For a moment, for a second. Then the novelty wears off.
>>342041990
RIGS is looking to be an outliar, being a mecha arena shooter. Rez Infinite as well
>>342045089
I did say the Kinect was a gimmick. I just used the powerglove as an example. I sort of agree with you on the Kinect. At first everyone wanted one. After everyone found out it was shit, nobody wanted it an Microsoft pushed that shit on everyone. This lead me to what I'm saying is that gamers get caught in certain trends that lead them to buy stupid gimmicks.
>using vr for anything other than vehicle games
>>342040213
Call it whatever you wan, I'M IN BABYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
>>342045386
Oh yeah, I'm sure a fucking treadmill, VR goggles, a capable PC, and headtracking will be very affordable.
The Vive is already way too expensive and has space as an issue.
>>342040213
No, 30FPS VR is mainstream says Sony President
keks
>>342045697
>roomscale
Just get an omni or something similar when everyone knows how retarded is being limited by a room, that teleport movement shit was the example of why you dont do that for gaming.
foxgrape
:^)
>>342046016
at that point the games are already limited do to the limited nature of movement in VR.
Why has no one attempted to do spaceship sims yet? An exploration based game that takes place in the cockpit of a ship would be amazing.
>>342046530
You can adapt the VR to existing games.
No need to make new ones.
>>342046709
which games? Even at that point you need to develop a new interface for the controls.
>>342043213
Propably not porn games...
Ecchi games like DOAX3 could certainly release but not explicit games.
However you can watch vr porn blu-rays and vr porn on pornsites. You can also just download vr porn and play it on your ps4 via USB.
The only vr porn you can't consume are the games that require native graphics rendering.
>>342046709
>You can adapt the VR to existing games.
Wut.
How?
Does it only work with specific games or can you VR every game? can I VR chrono trigger?
>>342046928
>DOAX VR Game
I'll never leave my house.
>>342046851
>motion controls are VR
>>342046937
>playing games that wont take any advantage of it
why?
>>342047217
>argues that you can adapt old games to VR
>won't make arguement for specific games
>>342047787
Then stop acting like a retard.
You can adapt it to games that enough people like it to convert them with open source or paid 3rd party software.
Do it yourself if you want to VR chrono trigger, who the fuck want?
>>342041192
I'm wondering the same thing myself. On one hand, it might be the "hot item" this holiday, on the other, it's at a big price tag.
>>342043556
That thing looks like an abomination. Even Oculus looks better.
>>342041990
>(Both of which are nowhere near coming out)
Are you drunk or something?
EVE already came out. It'll be there day1 on PSVR's store
RE7 is releasing in January, 3 months after PSVR's release, that's nothing. The demo already came out and people are having a blast solving it just like they did with P.T.
>Can you name any fully fledged games that aren't Resi 7 or Eve?
-Let's not ignore RE7, that's one.
-GranTurismoSport. You can get as many hours as you think you can get into a racing game. I recall clocking in 200 with Forza3.
-RIGS. While it does have a MP focus it also has a SP campaign with team management, but of course the gameplay is still arena based.
-AceCombat7. I don't think I need to add anything to this
-Battlezone. Probably not a 40+ hour game, but a full game still.
-Dreams. Best VR 3D modeling application of them all, completely shatters TiltBrush, and as a bonus only costs $20 more and has an actual game behind it, who'd have thought?
-Project Diva X. Might not be most people's thing, but hey, a full rhythm game.
-Driveclub still might be a thing, the studio closed but they did get to make >>342045791
Then you also have shorter, yet full games like 100ftRobotGolf, Thumper, headmaster, Trackmania Turbo, EVE:Valkyrie, Adr1ft (most Vive/Oculus multiplats fall under this category) and others I won't bother listing because they are mostly indie.
There you go, as you can see it's not all Batman/Starwars/FF15 20-minute long "missions". Honestly PSVR has the biggest ammount of actual full games, it's not even comparable
>>342040213
it is still too early for vr. avoid it.
so many console illiterate here
fucking nerds
>>342048917
Lol you're embarrassing yourself
>>342049329
Just spreading the love. No need to be jelly now, anon.
He asked and I gave him 8 full games. That's 8 more than any other platform. And whatever you would consider a full game on other HMD's is also on PSVR, outside EliteDangerous.
>>342040543
>Eazy Allies and Giant Bomb saying their RE7 PSVR demo was very low resolution and upscaling was very noticeable
>Jeff Gerstmann said the version of EVE Valkyrie they had for PSVR looked awful compared to the Oculus version
There's probably going to be a shit load of caveats playing on PS4 Vanilla compared to Neo on VR.
Sony doesn't do gimmicks, they do innovations.
>>342049816
Because both screens are shit.
oculus and vive has a pentile display wich make it very bad like that pic, and the sony HMD is lower res despite being full RGB.
In none of this you can read the gauges of the car you are driving, unles its a MoTec display like a racecar.
>>342043767
Enjoy your piss poor life expectancy mate. Blue diodes will be death within 1-2 years of normal usage. There is a reason while pentile is still used with (AM)OLED panels.
>It's ok when sony does it
>>342042425
. From what I heard, lateral movement (ie turning in a FPS) causes motion sickness, which rules a very popular genre out. What's left is racing games and flight or space sims, anything with a cockpit I guess.
so is there any explaination on how driving games don't cause as much motion sickness as an fps game? Also would a racing game be programmed not to allow you to turn your head?
>>342052130
Motion sickness have 2 causes
>people with bad genes and fucked up inner ear strengh to resist a difference bewteen what you see and what you feel regards orientation
You cantake a bucket and get gudwith this
>devs fucking up with any camera aspect
Also simple, behead devs.
>>342051594
>Costs the least, even more so outside the US where Oculus costs double and Vive costs almost 3x as much as a PSVR
>has the most of what matters, actual full games
>much easier to get into, larger install base, will sell more than Oculus/Vive combined, thus getting more AA and AAA dev support
yeah, pretty ok, I guess
All Sony needs to do is add PC support to the PSVR and they'll win.
>>342052784
>actually defending gimmicks
>>342052784
>has the most of what matters, actual full games
I am in tears.
If you want VR go vive or go fuck yourself.
>>342042593
Aren't the PSVR region free too? Can't you just buy it from PSN?
>>342040213
Is PS VR a gimmick? Maybe. I can't see it being as good as headsets and systems specifically designed for it.
Is VR a gimmick? Not if it gets support. The tech is there and it isn't hokey or shitty like Wii motion controls. Without proper support it'll just be a good idea that didn't pan out.
>>342040213
Low end VR.
>>342053183
PSVR has plenty of full games, and most of Vive's/Oculu's biggest ones. I'm not interested at ALL in EarlyAccess and Greenlight-tier shit
I guess you're crying at that realisation
>>342053370
yes you can
>>342040213
Yes.
>>342040543
They can't develop high budget games on this piece of junk, why do you think NEO is coming out, they will no doubt release an updated PSVR as well.
>>342053436
The motion controls tech were shit because of the sensors, now its another stor.
The Head mounted display panel was and still is shit because the pixel density is not enough, we are in the same pixel density as older generations, they only improved the latency of the motion wich is pretty good compated to the 200+ms they were before without any external TrackIR.
>>342053768
>highest refresh rate
>PS move actually not too shitty when used in conjunction with the VR headset
>eye tracking system
PSVR seems the best for games anyway.
>>342053768
>lens and display matrix type not mentioned
Oh look, factors as relevant (if not more) than that 240x120 pixel difference at not there
>>342053985
>gran turismo is not high budget
>ace combat 7 is not high budget
>RE7 is not high budget
>the highest budget Vive/Oculus games are also on PSVR, but suddenly they don't count as high budget
kek
PSVR is objectively the best choice.
>>342054227
And they will all be shit on it because of the limitations it has. Read up on the specs before you act like a retard.
>>342054339
>every impression of the device and its games is mostly positive
>lets ignore the hours of videos out there and fear monger a bit
cute
Have you assholes learned nothing about sony?
It's basically going to be a face strap vita, sony will hype that shit and then drop it like half of everything else she mess with.
Remember the first pstv? The actual TV that's 3d and everything? Or 3d games? Remember the bullshit that is psp and vita memory cards? Remember how revolutionary the Eye toy was suppsoed to be?
Sony's going to abort because VR is just too early. I hope you faggots don't buy into sony's shit.
>Dumping cash into VR
>Not getting a Vive
If you're already springing the cash, why cuck yourself?
inb4 >getting VR at all
>>342054540
The games that are confirmed to come out for it already make the purchase worth it for me. Even is the worst case scenario of it dying within a year I'll be a happy guy
>>342055042
See you in the "I love my psvr!" threads then.
>>342043767
Both are becomming non issues once a certain resolution is reached. Sad thing they decided to not go for at least 1440p.
>>342055890
>once a certain resolution is reached
For VR that resolution is about 16k, Pentile vs RGB is very important for VR displays.
>>342056117
Nah, don't kid yourself. Around 4k it already becomes almost unnoticeable and I doubt that most people would have a problem with that resolution. Second or third generation it is then, considered it's not a fad and wont die.
>>342054523
So you just believe whatever everyone says and gobble it up like the shill you are, pathetic desu.
>>342056948
So you just ignore whatever everyone says and deny it all like the autist you are, pathetic desu.
>>342056712
At 4k on a normal screen without putting a fucking microscope, which is what the lens essentially are, it's unnoticeable. You need about 4x the normal resolution to get the same effect in VR. So if you are saying 4k, then that means 16k in VR.
