How different would the console wars be if the Dreamcast succeeded and we had 3 Japanese companies and an American company all battling?

Even if the Dreamcast sold millions more it was almost impossible for Sega to fight both Nintendo and Sony. With Microsoft entering the ring just would have been too much

Even if the dreamcast had been wildly successful Sega still would have folded. They were a seriously mismanaged company from top to bottom. They would have found a way to run that shit into the ground.

Sega's brand was not strong enough against Sony and Nintendo. Sonic was popular but not as much as Mario
Most casual gamers stayed with Nintendo while more hard core gamers went with Sony and MS
Dreamcast was doomed to fail. PS2 had a dvd player something Sega needed to stay relevant in the early 2000's. If they only waited 2 yeras to install and dvd player, things would have turned out much different

I knew a lot of people who didn't want to buy a Dreamcast because they were either happy with their N64 or were waiting for the highly anticipated PS2
Dreamcast came out at the worst time. They should have waited a year or 2 and put in a cheap Dvd player. That would have put way more pressure on consumers on whether to buy the Dreamcast or not. MS was just the final nail in the coffin for Sega

Competition would try and dust it with Wifi and tons of other gimmicks of portability, especially with the age of Ethernet.
Just look at the Wii and PS3, consoles that deeply reflect the Dreamcast's design philosophy with needed improvements.
