Morrowind is the only - and I literally mean the only - game that I can think of which has a fantasy world that feels like it could be a real place. It seems to make sense and be consistent.
Why do I claim that? Multiple reasons:
Several religions
Several political factions
Political invaders/conquerers
Racism
Foreigners and natives clashing
False information
People lying, people thinking they're right when they're not
You actually have to make some decisions and can be the king of everything
People seem to have ambitions
I mean, the game has flaws, sure, but Morrowind as a world in a game is the best and most coherent fantastical place in videogames I can think of.

There are other things, and fuck me for remembering this autistic word, but that shandification concept applies to Morrowind as well. People eat. There are places that produce food. Enough to pass a closer look. There is waste management. That are people transporting food. Cities are safe, the further away from cities you get the enemies become stronger.
The game mechanics often show their age, but the world itself, the attention to detail, the logic and thoughfulness behind everything is still the best in the industry.

Another thing: I mean, good voice acting in games (Witcher 3 for example) can be fucking great and immersive, but I still dislike it because it limits the amount of writing we can get, hugely increases the production cost of everything and makes adding/changing quests fucking expensive.
But honestly, as much as I like voice acting and as immersive it is, I think one of the biggest reasons for its success and prevalence is that people are too fucking lazy to read.
