i need to get a controller for my PC for games like dark souls and emulators. which one would you recommend /v/?
>>
Bone controller for 3D games.
Pokken, Saturn, or SNES controller for 2D.
>>
>>341998247
Xbone
>>
if you are in a budget

xbox360 wired

if you have some money

Xbone one with usb cable

"I have a shit lot of money to burn"

Xbone elite with wireless receiver

but mah DS4......

NO, a xbox360 wireless with a chinese charge and play kit will be better than the DS4 (and the battery will last longer)
>>
DS4 because touchpad.
>>
Do not fall for the 360 meme when the xbone controller exists. No reason at all to own a 360 pad anymore.
>>
>>341998247
Why don't you just buy a controller made specifically for PC?
There are more options.
>>
Go for it anon
https://xboxdesignlab.xbox.com
>>
>>341999640
>80 for a piece of shit controller
No thank you.
>>
>>341999638
That would be Xbox one controller. It's made specifically for Win10 PC which the Xbox happens to be.
>>
>>341999693
Make it some other colour than brown then, you idiot.
>>
>>341998247
The elite edition of the One controller.
>>
>>341998247
Xbone if you're a manlet with manlet hands.

360 is the best controller though.
>>
>>341999829
Elite controller doesn't support Bluetooth. A refresh to update it hasn't been announced.
>>
>>341999737
No because I can buy a controller for cheaper.
Kill yourself you moron.
>>
>>341998247

XBone controller 100%

Elite controller if that's a reasonable option for you

The Xbox design lab controller is Bluetooth now so it's also a great option.

DS4 meme, dont fall for it. The sticks wear very quickly, and the battery is garbage. Also need to run a separate program for it to work.
>>
>tfw got ds4 for pc
>tfw the LED bar stopped working in 2 weeks
>tfw it stopped charging in a month and now only works wired
>tfw ds4windows is some chinese botnet+bitcoin farming malware that constantly uses 10% of cpu regardless whether the controller is even connected or not.
go for xbone/360, cant be worse than that
>>
>>341999638

Honestly they are all garbage, show me a good one and maybe I'll change my tune.
>>
Anyone got a recommendation for a controller to use with 2D games
>>

How retarded are you?
I'm not surprised some dumbass who supports XInput favopurs getting a shitty Xbone controller. Please kill yourself.
>>
>>342000318

XBone controller last for like 25 hours. Also rechargeable batteries.
>>
>>341998247
Steam controller of course.
>>
Steam Controller will likely be $35 again for the summer sale. That's the best gamepad for PC games and it can be ok for emulated games depending on what you're playing.
>>
I cannibalized a gamecube controller that my friend's hamster ate the cord off, the only problem was that I had to turn down the voltage coming from USB to the controller.

If I recall correctly the rumble motor uses 5 volts, but the rest of the controller uses 3.
>>
>>341998247
Get any dualshock because you'll hate the inaccurate garbage xbox dpads.
>>
>>342000164
>using DS4windows

topkek
>>
>>342000254

XBone controller has an amazing D-pad. So buy one and itll do everything.
>>
>>341998247
Get a 360 or One. The DS4 is garbage.
>>
>>342000461
i dont care about xinput vs dinput debate, i just want to play games and shit to work. DS4Windows has been constantly using cpu, 5 to 10%, now i don't really think its malware or whatever, more likely just shitty programming, i switched to SCPToolkit which now uses 0-1% cpu.
>>
If you want analogue triggers and standard control scheme go for Xbox 360/Xbox One.
If you want amazing battery life, go for the WiiU Pro Controller + May flash adapter.
>>
>>342000683
360 has a bad dpad
ONE has a great dpad
DS4 has an okay dpad
>>
>>342000318
I've used my Xbox 360 controller for 200 hours and only needed to replace the batteries twice. It's no big deal.
>>
>>342000695
I've only held the XBone controller in my hand - haven't played anything with it - but I will admit the d-pad felt really nice. How good is it for platformers and top down games?
>>
>>341998247
xbox 360 wired is best value

xbox one controller for windows is best mid-budget

anything above that is for suckers
>>
>>342000497
>Also rechargeable batteries
Also plug and play cable that charges them while you play/idle.
>>
To all faggots complaining their things touch on DS controllers, how giving big are your hand? I have pretty big hands with relatively slim long fingers but not even once did my thumbs touch on DS controllers in all the years playing on PlayStation.
>>
>>342000930

I think it's great, very clicky, not mushy at all.
>>
>>342000015
if you don't personally see the value in the colors then you can still buy the regular ones for cheaper. No need to pay extra for customizing colors if you don't care for customized colors.
>>
>>342000598
>Steam Controller
nobody has said anything good about playing pc games with the steam controller. there is a reason it's a piece of hardware getting discounted so heavily so often.
>>
>>342000980

I think it all depends on how you rest your thumb on the analog stick. Some people over extend their thumb and it makes it hit.

>>

>>
XBone Controller is the best one i held in my hands.
>>
360 controller is still far and away the best, followed by probably the DS4 controller.

Xbox One controller still suffers from having terrible bumpers with those stupid upward angles on the inside that make clicking directly down with the tip of your fingers uncomfortable. If they just had the flat bumpers from the 360 pad it would be almost perfect.
>>
>>342001413

It sucks. The center of the dpad pushes down too much.

DS3 or 360 is the best imo.

DS4 has the handy as fuck trackpad but the pause and select buttons are annoying to hit and the analogs are garbage.
>>
>>342000945
Wired controllers are a hassle to have around a PC environment.

Xbone wireless locks you into Windows 10, and is ~45% more expensive than Xbox 360 wireless.

WTF, its worked on Linux since before it did on Windows. Did Microsoft really not add support for it on older versions of Windows?
>>
>>342002037
What does that mean? A cheap Logitech controller? The Xbone controller was also made to work with Windows.
>>
>>342002125
they added support to 7 and 8.1
>>
>>342001923

You mean to say if you have baby hands the DS controllers are great.
>>
>>341998247
xbox one controller has much higher build quality and is plug-and-play on PC. with ps4 you have to use third party software to get it working
>>
>>341998247
If I hook my old 360 controller into my Windows 10 PC via play and charge cable, will it work like a wired controller? I just want to play emulators, but Yabause won't play nice with my Dualshock 4.
>>
>>342002276
yup
>>
>>341998247

Xbone. Better dpad for emulators. The rest is mostly up to taste but the dpad makes it the obvious choice if you want to emulate.
>>
>>342002030
>>342002050
A cursory google tells me you're right both, I had no idea. I thought the only other controller they brought out was that super expensive one with all that button remapping shit. I'll have to check it out, thanks.
>>
>>341998565
I find that the mechanical d-pad makes the Xbone controller GOAT for 2D as well.
>>
>>342002276

>>
>>342000930
The d-pad is the best part about an already GOAT controller.

It's hard to go back anything else for any genre other than first person shooters. I legit like the mechanical d-pad more than my seimitsu stick.
>>
Bit of an off-topic question, but can someone link me to a fucking screwdriver I can use to take apart my 360 controller? I have an old McFarlane Halo 3 special edition controller that I never intend to give up, but it's all gunked up inside and I need to clean it out for the buttons and shit to work without sticking.

But I don't have a tool long and thin enough to penetrate the tight holes that M$ gave these things.

Well, that sucks. My Dualshock 4 usually works fine via Bluetooth, but for certain things it just doesn't.

I try to button map in Yabause, but it freaks out halfway through and starts saying they're all mapped as soon as I click one. It works fine with any Steam game and other emulators, but not fucking Yabause.

I always use DS4 since I got it.
I like the fact that you can use the touch pad as a mouse, really helps with some games that have shit menus for controllers (they give you cursor to move with analog instead of locking you on options).
I never liked the xbox controller, although I don't hate it either.
Just go to a store and ask if you can hold both of them and pick the one you like more, there's really no better one aside from personal taste in my opinion.

its good enuf for modern titles where the pad merely works as 4 extra buttons, for playing old games you will be using the stick instead.
