Doom 3 has lines of code from the original Doom in it. Throwing everything out is a ridiculous waste of time, it's literally never done in AAA development now. Why would you rewrite your matrix or vector classes just because you're making a new engine? Fundamental math doesn't change just because time passes.

How does it fare with open world/object and npc interaction/modability though? I'm all for a new engine, but I think modding is also essential for a Bethesda game.
There are also 3 games to go before Bethesda announces TES6, which will be quite a few years. I'm guessing they're thinking about a new engine as well.

Unfortunately you can't say the same for Gamebryo. It's been a piece of shit since day 1.

The Divine Divinity 2 devs said that they lost months of precious development time to make things work in gamebryo , that they had to cut almost half of the game. Originally, you were supposed to go talk to the other races to gain an alliance to fight Damian's armies. That part ended up being released as a stand alone game, Divinity Dragon Commander.

Obsidian also had problems developing on Gamebryo, and they lost precious months to make things work on the engine. They had to cut most of the legion stuff in the process.

Fallout 4 does improve the graphics though. It has PBR, SSR and volumetric lighting. As for bugs I haven't played a Bethesda game since oblivion so I wouldn't know but I'd assume they've fixed some but no one cares to post about those.

I have an ocd about collecting. After i completed every dungeon i built a giant house on spectacle island and just decorated a bunch of rooms with shit i collected. Thus was the birth of this thread and my troubles
