Just copyright trolls, ignore the letter they won't sue.

They send hundreds (maybe thousands) of those kinds of letters a day hoping for a few bites. Actually they are emails to your ISP telling them to pass on the information to you. Many ISPs ignore the emails but now a lot are forwarding them as big jew companies complained.

They are just shakedown attempts. They know nothing other than it was IP most likely spotted in a torrent swarm. They have no evidence or any sort of case. You can literally say it was a hacker who got in your modem or someone spoofed your IP. Bam they can't prove it was really you.

What they do want is you to settle out of court with them giving them free money and your information for free skipping the legal process of finding out who you are. It also marks you as a good goy who pays up who they will target more.

In order to sue you they have to get a subpoena to get your information from your ISP. That's granted they have law practice that's barred in your state. If not they have to get barred in your state or hire more to the legal to team. Then they have to actually win to get to sue you. All of this costs money by the way.

If they lose you sure as hell can counter sue for waste of time.

In short get a VPN.
>>
>>341955878
That's somehow cute
>>
>>341955353
I had a movie downloaded at my place, went to parents place and the torrent started uploading when I turned on the computer and connected to wifi.

The Internet shut off and they got a call about it.
>>
>>341955878
Does it let you play afterward? That's wonderful.
>>
>>341955230
When's the last time anybody was actually sued or fined for piracy?
>>
>>341956227
within 5 minutes I should add.

They said the title of the movie and my MAC address.

Think the movie company was going to give the ISP a cut for ratting me out or something.

It was some Disney movie I was going to watch with a girl later that night. Ever since then my parents think I like Disney movies lol. I was like 22 at the time.
>>
>>341956252
It does.
>>
>>341956408

They were watching the torrent swarm and logging all the IPs connected to it.

Its just a bot they had.
>>
>>341956337

Usually only hosts of those sites gets sued/arrested. You'd lose too much money trying to sue the dude for money he's never gonna get back and its usually pretty bad PR to ruin some guy's life over a pirated copy.

You can also make the claim someone broke into your wifi and downloaded without your knowledge and that usually has them ignore you even after numerous times.

i happen to be knowledgeable on the subject
depends on the method

For example if i took a ps1 disc from my shelf right now, i could rip with imgburn and it would detect its a copy

or i could use clonecd and set it to read subchannel data and create a copy that doesnt alter the disc image when reading and create a way around the anti piracy measures

Cartridges require other means like a gameshark or a backup tool (see bung related tools)

its super easy when you get the tools needed, but if you dont have the tools then it may be harder

OR you can use the system itself to back it up as most dreamcast gdi rips are made which is a clever use
it doesnt trigger anti piracy measures, but it also allows you to rip without issue

How did game systems detect illegal copies before they were connected to the internet? I understand that modern DRM or whatever usually involves an online screening that can verify CD keys and stuff, but how did the old systems detect copies? Surely the copies were just a copy and past of all the game files onto a new disk or cartridge, right? What part of that makes them detectable?

The rarity and formal urgency of the messages are typically letting you know that something has gone very wrong. Even if its something as trivial as a messed up video game, you still have that intense feeling of wrongness that gets to you.
Some such messages are intentionally trying to creep you out as well. Like this SMT message.

The immersion of the game is instantly shattered, and the screen usually instantly flashes, there's no buildup. It's like an unconventional jump scare that freezes on the screen. When I was 6 I was playing an arcade game in my neighbor's basement at his birthday party and it suddenly cut mid-game to a hot pink anti-piracy screen. I wasn't alone in the room, it was a nice summer day with people talking all over, but the screen just gave me intense feelings of wrongness and paranoia that's stuck with me to this day regarding this kind of stuff.
