what really matters is that the maps are connected now, so you can explore just like a regular JRPG, beta monsters, get treasure chests and have some comfy journey across regions.

I'd argue the partnerships are more responsible for the changes than KT itself. Square is certainly pushing for them to make it more like a traditional rpg than a simple reskinned musou.

Toukiden was severely shat on for the dire need of 60fps in a monhun clone.
DQH had a better reception, despite not having sold much. then again, I don't think they expected it to sell big numbers since the premise is quite contradictory: DQ fans want a traditional jrpg, not a fast paced action game. this was more of an experimental title.
DQH2 can be more successful since it caters more to that audience. they are definitely going to bring over DQH2 unless it's a complete disaster and bombs even in Japan on ps4.
