In all seriousness, I really doubt that Toby copied Cave story at all. Sure their stories might seem similar, but they don't at all have the same themes. He just wanted to live up to the backers expectations and delivered. Clearly flawed and inferior to Cave Story, Undertale still stands as a good game that tried to innovate.
