>Those talented in art can make adored fan art, or even bead sculptures or other pieces of art for their favorite games
>Those talented in music can compose and/or emulate their favorite games music
>Those talented in writing can....

Seriously, what can us writerbros do to show our love for our favorite games? Write fanfiction no one does or should take seriously?

Describe your love for something in the way only you can.

pornographic fan fiction is popular still

This, a well written article about why you like a game can convince a lot of people to try it out or at least appreciate it.

Writers learn twine, make a porn game, and milk patreon by supporting niche fetishes.

Create plots for games, with those as your inspiration.

Yeah but no one reads reviews from literally whos nor do they care unless there's some gameplay stream involved as well from wacky screaming PDP-like youtubers
>>
Nothing? Writing isn't a talent, it's a basic skill you need to live in society.
>>
>>341921804
Writing well is. Like being a chef or in a symphony.
>>
an actual talented writer doesn't make fan content, they create their own universe

all those beloved ips started out as nothing more than really basic concept art or a written design document
>>
>>341922593
Yeah but you work your way up for that.

I gave up on the idea of contributing to games and started pursuing other forms of media where writing is more important.

Then I realized how fucking hard it is to be a writer when there's millions of other writers on the planet. It's not like what makes you so unique is immediately apparent, unlike art. One glance at two different artists can let you distinguish them easily just by their art style alone.

Call it what you like, but I feel as if artists and musicians have it easier. You really gotta bust your ass off to get anywhere with writing, be it in the games industry or otherwise.
>>
>>341921804
Please, anon, post an example of your writing and show us all how skilled you are.
>>
>>341922834

and you work your way up by starting out by making your own stuff first, if it's actually decent (cave story) or a lot of people with shit taste notice your work (game of thrones) then you'll get places. but if you don't make anything then there's no reason to lament in the first place
>>
>>341922593

That's like saying actually talented graphic artists only create their own stuff.

Makes no sense.

Hell, American Comic book is all about authors making stuff - both graphic and text - that is not their own. Scriptwriting in Hollywood is just basically that too when you're down to it.

write for modders, duh

quest mods for any game usually have horrendously written characters, make a difference nigga
>>
>>341920430
Because aside the other two writing fanfiction is pure autist cancer that only 14 yo farts from their brains
>>
>>341923352
What do you do anon?
>>
>>341923352

I remember a piece on just that in Jules Renard's journals.

The musician or the painter can just show the product of their labor and everyone, even those untrained can see *something*.

For the writer though, it's much harder, and the public from the get go needs to not only be trained enough to see , but willing to extend the time to do so.

The only external sign for those that do not know used to be the volume of paper on display.
>>
>>341923830

I must say I enjoyed League of Extraordinary Gentlemen nonetheless.
>>
>>341923541

and both of those mediums are complete trash, they're well oiled machines with hundreds of employees so any artistic individuality is tossed out the window

for the sake of simplicity let's mix comic books and hollywood, how many fucking batman and spiderman reboots do we really need in this universe?

They're professional writers writing popular fiction. Some of it of worth too.

No one artist create anything ex nihilo. Creators plunder before they can make. And they plunder from what they love.

If you haven't produced anything yet you never will, and most "masterworks" are only that way because of memes

hell the only reson LotR is respected today is because of that bullshit meme about it being a wwII allegory

Nothing really at the moment, and it's fuckin' eating at me. I'm currently writing a screenplay, but I'm quite far from a pitch of any sort. I really need to stop worrying about what the first draft looks like and write SOMETHING.

Gamers do not give a fuck about writing, no matter how much they say they do.

If you want to get recognized for your writing, get into an actual literary circle.

>>341925054
to be a good writer all you have to do is keep shitting more work out the door till you figure out exactly what you want to write, like pretty much every other skill

I just wanted to say the number of people who claim to be writers when they are critics at best, memers of lit critics at worst is innumerable

totally wasn't one of those kind of people at one point in my life

>Call it what you like, but I feel as if artists and musicians have it easier.

Writer here, no they dont. There's just as many bullshit writers cashing in as there are mediocre artists and musicians making bank.
