Because an isometric camera 99 percent of the time gets in the way of what you're trying to look at. Is an enemy in the corner that you could see just fine if you rotated the camera in any other fucking video game? You don't know, sidle along the wall so you get that retarded vision cone thing so that you can see if there's a monster in there. It was a cheap and easy choice so that people could design worlds with tilesets and give people a birds-eye view.
The isometric perspective wouldn't require a Kickstarter to bring back if we hadn't found better alternatives to this, like the first person and third person perspectives. It's why the only people making isometric games anymore are Kickstarter games and indie devs, such as the Infinity Engine resurgence and games like Grey Goo. Remember Grey Goo? Because fucking nobody else does.

I finished the demo a few weeks ago, mechanically it was rather simple, but I still enjoyed it for those few hours I was playing.
I would probably buy it if it came to GOG as the demo never had you face any ranged opponents and that might spice things up a bit, but not for $20. I can't bring myself to pay that much knowing Underrail was $15. But I don't think they guy ever said anything about a GOG release, so it's all moot anyway.

A typical playthrough is an astonishing 40+ fucking hours. Imagine playing through all the variations of a character. Yes, it's insane how much story is involved for each crime you commit. It plays out who's your starting buddy is and will determine also the ending of your story arc. And in regards to build variety, It's sustainable I mean you can create your own build via stats but the recruiting option and utilizing the stronghold system is what makes the game truly unique.

Sadly she died a premature death in the final fight of the tutorial dungeon as she couldn't tank for shit and neither could I, which even more sadly lead to my death too.
When I later started a new game I went for the exact same build and options, yet my new partner was a Crusader grill. Now she could tank. Oh boy, could she ever.
Either way, this made me think the companion was randomly assigned from a larger pool, and had zero relevance to the story.

You can play as a human male, female, or as an orc.
You can be convicted of one of thirty different crimes.
You can claim innocent or guilty.
You can BE innocent or guilty, so you didn't necessarily have to claim the truth.
There are nine different skills to train.
There are six skill-based perks per skill, for a total of 54 different perks.
There are around twenty special characters to recruit, some of them mutually exclusive with each other.
There are hundreds more generic enemies to recruit, with their own unique personal perks, too many to recruit in one game.
Hundred of secrets to discover, impossible to find all of them in one game.
That list isn't even complete. Back when the game was just a demo I still played it over and over.

You create a stronghold, or base of operation, for your band to rest, to attract merchants, hire people, yada yada. You need larger bases to house more bandmates, and you need more manpower (bandmates with the right skills) to get better strongholds.
Equipment comes in weapons, armor, and other things. There are potions you can drink in combat, food you can eat out of combat, swords, daggers, staffs, books, and other weapons. Some weapons requires puzzle-solving to acquire.
As you adventure with your bandmates and talk to them, you develop bonds with them. They'll become friendlier toward you, and some of them will reveal thing about their past, like what crime they had committed to be sent to the island. Some events will only occur once a bandmate completely trusts you.
I say there's tons of replayability. New choices means new things are available to you. Be a glorious hero. Be a wretched villain. Punch a goblin! Don't punch a goblin! I haven't discovered everything about the game yet, it'll take ages before you'll exhaust the island of its possibilities.

It seems, based on my scant playtime, that risk just adds you to the end of the queue before the turn rolls over so single enemies get to act two or three times in a row while your characters have to wait for the enemy to finish their bullshit.
