It's debatable which smash is more fun in a casual party setting, but melee is significantly better if you want to put in time and effort into getting good.
It's a shame this game has historically always been shit on by the FGC. I'm just now realizing how much more technical and hard to play this game is than anything capcom has ever made or dreamed of. Does street fighter even have half the variables and mechanics melee has? Not to mention SF has practically always had crappy comeback mechanics

Notice how every great competitive game in history has never been intentionally designed for it, and the flaws makes it beautiful.
Brood war (or the original starcraft) is a perfect example how limitations of the engine made for some interesting scenarios and strats. BW it pretty much THE mother of all esports.
Also look at the original DotA, lots of limitations with the Warcraft 3 engine but still a genre defining game.
Melee is the perfect example of how a fun party game turned into one if not the best fighting games ever.

In situations like the one in the picture where Marth has Fox in a grab under a platform on stages like Yoshi's or BF, how come I've seen Marths like M2K and Leffen utrhow fox onto the platform and the jump up to the platform to regreab instead of getting utilts and uairs? Is it because the uthrow has potential to get more damage or better positioning?

I played a lot of Sm4sh and dropped it to play Melee. I just started playing Melee yesterday, I learned to wavedash and trying to learn L-Cancel. I'm practicing Fox and Falco but, is Melee this slow at first? It doesn't look as fast as people make it to be.

20XX pack has a L-cancel training feature.
Make sure to turn it on. The red-flash when failure thing.
Also remember that L-cancel a move is different when it hits, when it doesn't, when it hits shields, and when it has lots of hitlag.

Yeah but aren't CRT's bulky and heavy? Since I don't have much room to work with, if I had a CRT for old systems that require RCA connectors, and a more modern TV that could play modern systems, I'd have to switch between them every time. If you have a good PC with a decent gaming monitor you can also train on emulation and use netplay.
Netplay is legit for practicing neutral at least, not so good for spacies though.
