Platinum, HG/SS, and BW2 are the best.
However Platinum has problem, in my opinion, of having a pretty shit selection of pokemon to choose from for your team. HG/SS have the god awful level scaling that if you have a team of 6 is guaranteed to leave you pretty underleveled.
Given those and that I did not see any glaring problems in them, personally find BW2 to be the best games in the series. From spot on level scaling, a good pokemon selection to choose from, the well done sprites for the pokemon, and all the extra post-game stuff I don't really see how anyone can dislike those games. Gen 6 has minor quality of life improvments that they could benefit from, but they aren't major.

They're literal romhacks of the other games in that generation. The older games were designed with the old consoles in mind and there's no appreciation for how the technical limitations of something like the GBC might have actually made for a better game.
Pokemon Platinum is a game made with the Nintendo DS in mind. Pokemon Heart Gold/Soul Silver are games with GBC limitations made on the Nintendo DS. They lose more than they gain in the process of being translated since stuff like the soundtrack and colour pallet end up feeling bland in comparison to the old versions.
