The synthesis is alright. I like that they brought back individual item quality and traits.
The game feels grindy as fuck though. I prefer Shallies progression system. I always felt like things were moving along just from doing little things like quests and gathering in Shallie. But in Sophie I feel like I'm constantly revisiting places and doing more boring quests without moving the plot along. It's just slower going I guess.

The big problems I have with Sophie's progression are that the area level thing takes too long to raise even with the equipment that makes it go up faster, combined with how little basket space you have compared to how much stuff you get from every point and battle, which makes it so you can really only visit one area before going back to town.
And the item ideas thing requires you to constantly do the same menial tasks to get small increments for the next plot recipe.

I also prefer the English voices. The trouble with games like Atelier is that they only receive a partial dub, where only a small percentage of the lines are voiced in English, while all the lines get Japanese voices. If every single line was dubbed like in Rorona I'd be okay with that, but in more recent games only a tiny fraction of the lines get English voices.
I think the voices are crucial for bringing the characters to life, so I started playing with the Japanese voices just so I'd hear them more.
