KILL 3D MARIO.

The mass market has spoken. Audiences have REJECTED 3D Mario as a waste of time. They don't want to run around in wide open, boring, empty environments. They want to be immersed in a 2D game.

Why did NSMB sell nearly thirty million (THIRTY MILLION) while Super Mario Galaxy flopped? It's because the market is starting to push back against the inferior, 3D Mario gameplay. People don't want those games, but Nintendo is selfish and refuse to give gamers what they want. Why does 3D Land exist? Because Nintendo CAN'T admit to themselves that 3D Mario was a mistake and went out of their way to make 3D Mario as similar as 2D Mario as possible. And it STILL flopped.

It's time to make a real successor to Super Mario Bros 3, one with sharp new visuals, interesting mechanics, and NO FUCKING 3D.

Sony rehashes even more in a smaller amount of time. Look at the rachet and clank series, there are 10 games in the span of 2 generations. There's like 2 zelda games per generation at best.

Here, I'll help that guy out:

>character depth for the main cast besides Mario and Geno, along with individuality of attacks

>the involvement of the Star Road and the stars in general (Rosalina takes Geno's role, these days)

Now that said, PM1 did add First Strike/Back Attack, and the Badges are fun. Newer Mario RPG's have introduced a very few good things or modern improvements upon the core mechanics, but screwed up a lot of other things in the process.

What are you guys smoking, open world mario sounds absolutely fucking terrible. Some of the larger levels of SM64 push it a bit, do you think an entire connected level would be fun at all? Especially when your only weapon is more than likely jumping unless they do some weird "equippable power ups" shit, and even then you're more incentivized to just run around enemies to grab shit anyway.

If Nintendo wants to make a 3D platformer so badly, MAKE A NEW IP.

Don't turn Mario into something it isn't.

Do you know why BOTW has been so wel received? It went back to it's roots and became about EXPLORATION and COMBAT, not PUZZLES. Mario is the same way. When SMB2 flopped, Nintendo immediately pretended that it never happened and released SMB3 instead.

But now we have gone nearly THIRTY YEARS without a real Mario game to play. 64 sucked balls, Sunshine sucked. Galaxy sucked. Galaxy 2 was a rehash of a sucky game. Why is Nintendo making all of these games that NO ONE wants to play? It has reached the point where a fucking mediocre Playstation exclusive that no one likes can outperform a Mario game.

See, when you guys say Open World Mario, I immediately think of SM64/SMS/SMG. For the chipper demeanor of Mario, transitions to sandbox are the only way to go.

Mario is more fun with a variety of level types. To accurately make those transitions in a TRUE open world construct would take far, far too long. As fun as it might seem, getting around Delfino Island would still have taken a largely empty 2-5 minute Turbo Nozzle trek, and no one would want that, or else you limit the player to only that world and punish them with boredom for wanting to either explore or progress.

No Bowser as the main baddy, please. Give me Fucking Wart or someone else that can help the main series branch out into new plotlines
Give Mario a sense of place. Not just random, disconnected zones, but a series of courses that connect and transition into each other. Basically, no overworld.
Maybe a new riding companion? Yoshi's great and all, but I'd love to see an Ostro or something become rideable.

Aside from this, they can do whatever they please.
