How come Nintendo doesn't have a 1st party flagship classical RPG on their home consoles, like the Final Fantasy or Tales series?
Since Nintendo have been around since forever, it's kinda strange.
They might go somewhere with Xenoblade, but it's still too early to tell. And I wouldn't call XCX a classical RPG anyway

Because they attempted it and it didn't work. Fire Emblem 9 was a return to their handheld games after 6 years and it didn't perform well enough to hold an interests for a console RPG for that series.

Because Pokemon is not only a handheld it's barely an rpg at all. You can't make Pokemon to the Console RPG flagship because it main concept is battling and trading with others and even though now we online. Console Pokemon would be inferior to Handheld Pokemon. Secondly They ne expansion on IP's in general and if they aren't gonna breath life into there older more obscure ones they've been neglecting, then they should try and make new IPs to grow.

Yes, there is. To also have a monopoly on the home console space and sell millions of console units.
Nintendo has multiple series that each focus on individual aspects of an RPG.
Style Savvy, for example, is a management-focues RPG, and Animal Crososing focuses on the collecting and NPC interaction aspects of RPG's.
i'd also like to submit Glory of Heracles. WHile the latest two entry in the series were on handhelds, its first three were on home consoles
I guess they're just not profitable enough to justify a home release for Nintendo.

and Nintendo surivied with the WiiU with a lack of everything.
Nintendo doesn't need a flagship RPG franchise. Obviously it would be good if they did, but it's not an necessity, especially when they have Pokemon, like I said many times before.

Xenoblade is just too new to tell if it will be long lasting, if they keep with it then sure but its too early to tell if they will keep it or let the series die.

Fire Emblem is growing into that I think (I certainly hope we start getting console FEs again), they recently started listing it as a flagship series. Even though it's tactical, it is still an RPG.
