It's stupid, if you jump, you'll fall at the normal rate and never reach the helicopter (Though you can still beat the mission without it). If you just run off the rooftop without jumping, you'll glide forward a lot faster than normal and be able to reach the helicopter. There's no indication of this and it's the only time in the game that it happens.
