Doing a comprehensive list would take long but the general intention so the be of fixing shit fans didn't like from Zestiria and to a lesser extent Xillia.
You can chose your on-screen avatar again, mini games are back, the battle system has no linking shit, it's using a skill system more similar to Vesperia or Graces, and so on.
It['s good they finally got theirs head out of their asses and are finally making a Tales that feels like Tales again.

Zestiria as a game was universally panned by nearly everybody since it was out in Japan, it has a lot of problems. Some which were a bit tweaked for the western release but a lot that are inherent flaws in how the game is designed.

It's still Tales of combat in a Tales of game series. I wanted to see for myself if it really was so bad. I was worse than in the previous games but I still enjoyed it. I just wish it was better. And Berseria is looking like it's going to fix a lot of the complaints.
Now if we are talking about a new series with a new kind of gameplay. Then yes, I don't buy games that don't appeal to me. But if a friend or someone recommends it to me for knowing better, then I might try it anyway and see for myself.
