I personally didn't mind the durability, I think the problem was in the demo you got dumped into the game with nothing so if you did bad on that initial part it fucked you up real hard.

I think my only complaints from the demo were the item hurricane that happened every time you killed an enemy, and the overkill health bars on the oni and cylops. It's fair enough to make an enemy tough, but when it takes two minutes to kill just because of the health bar then it loses appeal.

The skills needed to beat Dark Souls are also useful in this game, so I don't see people having that much trouble.
The main skill of Dark Souls is patience and admission of failure, so I don't imagine many genuine Dark Souls fans would be complaining about it.

The games are only superficially similar. They have dodging, blocking and a stamina bar.
By the end of the demo of Nioh, I was pulling off 20-50 hit combos against bosses. It felt less like I was playing a Souls game, and more like I was playing Ninja Gaiden with a stamina bar.
People who play it like a Souls game are going to have a tough time with it, because it's really not one.

I think the alpha demo pretty much confirmed multiple playable characters.
When you were on the map screen, before selecting a stage, a big picture if William came up, saying "WILLIAM". why the fuck would that be a thing if you wouldn't be able to choose somebody else? Maybe only on the side missions tough.

The biggest difference is both how aggressive you have to be, and the speed of the game.
If you sit around waiting for the enemy to attack so you can dodge it then try to exploit and opening like you would in a Souls game, you'll die. Nioh does not work like that. Dodging is an aggressive action in Nioh and you'll use it to start off an attack rather than to defend against them.
As for the speed difference. If you play like a Souls game, you'll maybe get in 3 hits, dodge away then wait around for 5+ seconds until you get your stamina back.
If you play it like it's suppose to be played, you'll go in, Ki release properly and pull off a 20-30 hit combo resulting in 3 dead enemies.
These are the two things that fucked up most Souls players, but once you realize the games are different it becomes much easier to play.
Personally I prefer the faster, more aggressive nature of Nioh.

A fictionalized Hattori Hanzō appears in the game and manga as well, so he might be playable.
Also Jan Joosten, a Dutch sailor who was one of Adam's shipmates and later became a samurai as well, is alluded to in the Nioh manga, so he might appear down the line, too.
