It was made in Game Maker iirc, only the levels were made in RPG Maker.
Cheaper than AAA games, and sometimes better too.

After you play a few you realize every single one has some twist ending.
And it just becomes a game of guess the twist.
I can't stand unnecessary twists that add nothing but give a big middle finger to the player.
It has the potential to make fun and interesting games but 99.999% of the people who use it never make anything like that

The "best" (comedy) ones are the ones with zero balance checks, no spell check, and written by an ESL. Fun times breaking the game while laughing during story moments that are supposed to be dramatic.
Nowadays I spend more time playing h-rpg games than actual games, and I have zero ragrats.
It's fun to make games and share them with your friends. Making little RPG projects to bring your ideas to life is pretty cathartic and getting good reactions from people is fun.

The extremely low entry bar means lots of shit games out there. I mean metric tons of pure shit that are drowning out the occasional decent game but the limited engine wont let games go beyond decent.

Unfortunately no, it had a serious tone and dozen of edited sprites from shoot'em'up games. I'm fairly sure it was released in french, then they decided to work on the english translation.
I don't really play a lot of them, since it's kind of its own community, which I'm not a part of (anymore). I think it's a perfectly fine tool for people who want a creative outlet without having to learn coding, and you can actually do some impressive stuff with it if you go beyond the surface level. But people who try to sell games that use the default assets deserve a speacial place in hell.
Last Scenario is pretty good.

As with any other thing, the more effort and creativity put into it the better it is. I wont dislike something just because it was made this.

The only good ones I've played are 7th Stand User and One Shot and even then they're not amazing or anything
I loved how you could just wait in the witch house until Violla(or how girl who switched bodies with witch was called) dies and finish game without even entering trap house

The pacing gets a lot better after the hotel level. It is kind of a slow game overall though.
