I've had curb stomps where I've topped damage and close matches (wins and losses) where the same has happened. It's up to who I play against of course and I've definitely had trouble keeping up with heroes such as Zarya, but I'm consistently able to cause mayhem as long as I'm aware of where and when to pop out of my mech. Once I started getting a good idea of what fights I can stick around in and pop off a quick volley of headshots with my pistol, I was basically jumping in and out of my mech all game.

If there's two genjis it's almost certain one of them is trying to punish the other for picking genji.
I've had games where I switched off Genji when someone else picked him, only for them to switch until I switched back to genji
when I play Genji well I usually play well enough to basically carry my team, he's dangerous if aggressive. clever use of his deflect and swift strike refresh can shred enemy teams.
but that's only if I play well, he's the kind of hero that if I'm not really into it I'll play terrible so I just switch to support or tank instead.

He's usually better on defense though, attacking teams will usually split up constantly so it's easy pickings for him. Plus on attack he has to deal with Symmetra and Thorbjorn half of the time which is not ideal for Genji.
The main perk of an attacking Genji is how easy it is for him to sneak past enemy lines and start capturing the objective, he won't do it all by himself but it'll force the defenders to break up their choke point.
