i agree that review scores should be relevant to their time. Both half life and goldeneye were incredibly fun, especially multiplayer in goldeneye's case. i think the problem with half life is it stayed more or less the same, but with upgraded graphics over the years. it didnt advance much in terms of anything really videogame-wise. i'd say half life 2 is overrated in that concern.

Dialogue was somehow worse than everyone thought. It was fucking horrific and basically ruined the role-playing experience.
Tons of shit removed for no reason like skills, ammo types, reputation, advanced companion commands, and some other things I can't think of right now.
Main plot doesn't make a ton of sense and clashes with the gameplay. The story incentives you to rush out and find your son as soon as possible but the gameplay wants you to explore every nook and cranny of every tiny location.
Not enough guns--pipe weapons are abundant but are literally never good enough to use.
Plot has tons of holes (see Joseph Anderson video).
Main plot about the Institute has no reason to be in a Fallout game. Why would you choose the theme of artificial humans/AI in the Fallout universe, or any post-apoc universe? They abused the "War never changes" line in the intro of the game, but they never actually explored that idea in the story.
Not to mention the classic "Bethesda has no idea how long 200 years is" problem.

Fallout 4 had its faults, but I still enjoyed it while it lasted. It wasnt a game you played multiple playthroughs of, but it was a good single "explore everything" playthrough game, and it improved on a lot since 3.

I really don't think Dark Souls II, Undertale, Overwatch and Half Life 2 should be up there. While they have their own flaws they aren't awful games.
When compared to the rest they are popular games in their own right but they aren't a buggy mess like Fallout 3, 4 and Skyrim.
They aren't contrived of shallow stories and choices despite being presented as deep and meaningful like Gone Home, Mass Effect and Bioshock Infinite.
And they aren't hanging on nostalgia despite always being a dumbed down console shooter like Goldeneye. (Though an argument could be made for Half Life 2 I think it was rather revolutionary for it's time.)
