To defeat him they needed to travel to the far past when he was still weaker, since he was too fucking broken in the present for Ness and co. and still brokener for Buzz buzz in the future, he was so fucking powerful he lost physical form and had to be contained inside the Devil Machine to not go apeshit and destroy the world he was trying to enslave. Even then, Ness had to absorb the power from the planet from the 8 points, plus get the full song which could appease to the last bit of Giygas "humanity" from when Ninten's grampa took care of Giegue. Even then, every fucking body in the planet had to pray for the party to spirit bomb Giygas.
