Faves are FFVII, FFVI, and FFIV, but I hardly ever replay VI and IV because it takes fucking forever to get to the good parts. FFVII with mods (specifically New Threat) is beast.
III, V, and IX are good and all but they are also kind of boring. X would beat all of them out if I could skip the endless fucking cutscenes.
I love the combat in XII and XIII but something about those games feels off. It's like they have no soul.
Final Fantasy I and II are okay I guess. I wouldn't recommend them.
VIII is miserable. The characters are awful, the setting makes no sense, and pretty much the entire experience was agonizing.

I'm only like an hour in so I can't really say much (just after Ifrit). Mostly because I've been reading how Junction works and drawing. I think it's interesting so far though. Setting is quite different and the battle system even more so. Also had to find a fix for the music since the steam release has shit music.
Also the graphics are a LOT better than VII. Didn't expect it

I have a hard time enjoying myself when playing it.

It obviously doen't hold a candle to FFV or BD, but it was a great game when it came out.
Final Fantasy I: Nonsensical story, lack of definable characters, Classes not as good as Dragon Quest III which came out 2 months later, bad flow, good music
Final Fantasy II: Star Wars story, lackluster characters, completely broken skill system, horrid flow, good music
Final Fantasy III (Remake): Nonsensical story, lack of definable characters, Classes still not improved let alone as good as Dragon Quest III which came out two year before, bad flow, good music, sadistic final dungeon, remake didn't fix any of this
Final Fantasy IV: Dumbest story I've ever seen in an RPG, good characters ruined by bring in a Naruto level story (everyone is being used or kills themselves for dumb reasons), Set classes were an improvement, okay flow, great music, Remake added a few augments but didn't fix the original games flaws
Final Fantasy V: Have yet to play
Final Fantasy VI: Not the best story ever but a massive improvement over the previous games, tons of characters but half of them lack focus or development; including Terra, Esper system was good, good flow aside from mid game, amazing music
Final Fantasy VII: Good starting story that falls apart in Disk 2, tons of characters but half of them lack focus or development, Materia system wasn't that great and felt like Runes from Suikoden done poorly, flow is all over the place; a clear lack of focus and tons of filler content, half the songs are amazing and the other half are forgettable
Final Fantasy VIII: Good story aside from the few forced plot twists (Orphanage, Time Compression and everything having to do with Rinoa), Everyone in the game seems to be stupid except for Squall but it works to make Squall seem better, Junction system was horribly broken but also fun, good flow, amazing music

Final Fantasy X: The worst story tied with FFIV; literally 3/4 the plot (and everything tied to Yuna) could be removed and the ending would be the same, Good characters stuck in a facepalm worthy story, Sphere system is probably the best FF has created yet, true turn based was a good decision FF should have stuck with, flow ranged from mind-numbing slow to too fast depending on what point in the story you are playing, lackluster music (hearing the tenth remix of the Zanarkand theme is just too much)

Final Fantasy XII: Story is blatantly imitating Star Wars, Every character i nthe game is made out to be the main character at some point but just leads to no one getting proper development, Didn't like the License Board, bad flow, horrible nonsensical music

Glad I'm not alone. I tried playing Tactics for a third time just last week. But everything about it besides the music just annoys the heck out of me. Maybe the PSP remake fixed the horrid translation and flaws in combat. But I can't play the PSP version on my PS3 so oh well.
