I'll go ahead and say I'm totally ignorant when it comes to PC shit. I've had this one for a couple years now, bought it from HHGREGG and was wondering if y'all could suggest any possible upgrades for it?

http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03517210

I'm not looking to make it super high-end or anything like that, just able to reliably play some of the more recent games that have come out.

I've also recently considered trying to read up on PC's and whatnot and learning how to build my own and what to use but I'm not sure where to start on that one either, honestly.

So any help would be greatly appreciated you guys.

Since no one is helping let me just say it's unsalvageable shit

The cpu is amd (apu?) which is the worst for gaming. Moving on, this thing doesn't even have a proper gpu. It uses integrated shit . Not sure if you have a dedicated card on this thing. But you could slap in a more powerful card.

Unfortunately for you it also has a Internal 300W power supply which is pretty weak even if you got a better video card.
>>
>>341827952
you'd honestly be better off just building one from scratch
>>
>>341829381
Ah well shit. Sucks but I've kind of wanted to make my own for awhile now so I may just look into that.

>>341829498
Is there anything you'd recommend then? Parts-wise, things like that, and do you know what kind of budget it'd usually run to build something like I'm wanting?

Yeah, I got it when I really had no clue what I was getting into. This thing was mostly meant for school shit with just stuff I could do on the side at times so I wasn't sure if there was anything I could do to improve upon it later on.

Also so you know what do in the future if you do get one. The mobo is the center of the pc. Always look at the socket type because only certain cpus can be used with certain mobos. Yours is limited to amd cpus alone so you can't even switch over to say an i5.

All mobos have pci-e slots so upgrading video cards is never a problem. You could stick a titan in that pc if you wanted as long as you upgraded the power supply but that cpu will bottleneck you hard. As in it's so weak it will drag the framerates down and never take full advantage of your card.

In fact if your mobo had a socket that allowed an i5/i7, all you would have to do is just get a better cpu and gpu and psu. You can still salvage the ram though, the hard drive, the cd drive and the case maybe? Not sure about case since it's a prebuilt

You're being too vague. What is reliably? 60 fps with high settings? When do you need it by?

Either way we're in the midst of new video cards releasing so I'd really get stuff by the end of the year when everything is out and you have a clear view of benchmarks/performance of it all.
>>
>>341830367
Ahh alright, I'll keep that in mind.

>>341830773
My bad. Uhh, honestly I'm really in no rush to get it and I don't mind playing games at 30 fps even though some others prefer it at 60 (I can see the difference in them, just I think 30 fits what I'm going for better) and I'd honestly just like to play games on medium or high settings.

Seriously speaking what's the max you can spend?
>>
>>341831187
Well I mean, games are playable at that frame rate aren't they? Like, genuine question when I ask this, is it really necessary to go any higher?

>>341831287
Somewhere in the 1500-2000 range.
>>
>>341827952
For starters If you're on a budget and want to be able to comfortably play current and future games I'd say get an i3-6100 for CPU, get a cheap LGA 1151 motherboard, DDR4 2000-2400 8gb RAM, and get an R9 380x now or wait until the 29th to get the AMD 480.

You can get a NASA supercomputer for that son
Forget about 60 fps, go 144

Then you can pretty much make any high end you want. Though buying high end video cards like say the 1080 isn't always a smart choice since they have a hefty premium that isn't worth the extra hundreds. Unless you're rich and don't give a shit.

What most people do is buy the tiers in the xx70 range on nvidias side like the 1070 or the x90 on amds side like the 490 (not revealed yet). These cards offer good performance at a pretty good price. Thing is so far nvidia has shown the 1070 and 1080 and amd has only shown the 480 which is a good budget card but you're not budget. I'm personally waiting to see how the 490 turns out later and comparing it to the 1070.

Also amd cpus are generally garbage for gaming. They have a new line coming out called zen that might match intels at a much cheaper price but again you seem to have the cash to just buy an i5/i7 and call it a day.

In any case, video cards are also coming out with new ram soon called HBM2. I would suggest you wait and snag the first card that isn't a titan that has that ram to be future proof for any curveballs devs might do. I don't know how much in a rush you are though or when you want this by so I'm just saying what I would generally do.

If the 490 isn't HBM2 I'll wait for the next card that is.

lel, this is ancient.

OP, just remember that a good CPU is more important than a good GPU. If you have a slightly old and shitty GPU you can at least lower the settings to low and lower the resolution to get playable FPS, whereas if you have a shitty CPU you are going to almost always have bad FPS no matter the settings in the game that you change except for maybe some .ini settings in some games.

I'd say get an i3-6100, it's a new dual core and requires a motherboard that will make you future proof for a new i5 or i7. As for GPU if you really want to save $$$ get one used off ebay, look for a radeon 7770 or 7850 or something else used for around $100.

Why would you post that outdated fucking image when the site exists
>>
>>341827952
I mean...I guess you could SSD your OS get a bigger PSU like 550w and maybe a 280x for a GPU.

but that's already like $350 might as well start from scratch

Because the image contains all the info a person needs to understand pc's, their parts, what sites to go to and what does what without needing to let loose a vulnerable and confused person as they search blindly through random idiots' comments that do nothing to aid them but criticize others for trying to add to the topic at hand?

Yeah. Like I said I really ain't in any kind of rush to get one, this is obviously gonna be me saving up and buying part-by-part in a bit of a lengthy manner but hey, as long as the end result is nice I really don't mind it. Either way I'll definitely keep an eye out on prices and see what the best possible snag at the time would be.

>>341832419

Pic related. But either way I do appreciate the help y'all, means a bunch you'd take the time to give me info even though I'm a big goofball trying to find all this shit out.
>>
>>341833103

Just save the image and read it from top to bottom, then go to the sites it suggest for latest parts, and their prices.
>>
>>341832867

There's only a few critical things you need to know

1. What socket is the mobo
2. Does the cpu I want match the socket of the mobo
3. How much power will my cpu and gpu take up so I know what wattage power supply to get
4. Is my ram compatible with the motherboard?

There's really only DDR3 and DDR4

Op's shitty prebuilt DDR3 so the latest mobos tend to support DDR4 only. Some are hybrid though but you might as well go DDR4 and call it a day.

Here's some Computers for Dummies pointers:

1) Don't skimp on essential parts, such as the power supply. You don't need to buy the top-of-the-line most expensive one, but don't buy some cheap shit because it will fail on you. Same goes for any part, really.

2) Make sure you buy a motherboard that is compatible with the parts that you're buying. Typically, if it came out within the past couple of years, you're fine.

3) The cooler that comes packaged with your CPU is fine unless you plan to overclock. The plastic pins are kind of shoddy, however, so be careful when putting it in.

4) CPU is typically more important than GPU because graphics can be adjust to fit your GPU, but your CPU will bottleneck the hell out of your system if it's weak.

Not him, but most games don't care for multi-core. Either they don't have it enabled or it would rather have a singular higher speed over multiple lower speeds.

Much appreciated anon.

Anyway everyone, I do appreciate all the info you've given me tonight, I'm gonna start part hunting and looking at what exactly I'd like to build tomorrow but for now I need to head to bed. Thanks very much again to all of y'all.

Measure whether your GPU and CPU (especially with a custom cooling fan, which you should go for if you plan to OC your CPU - which you should) actually PHYSICALLY FITS inside your case.

Fractal Design Define R4 Black Pearl should accommodate the newest stuff but this is NOT coming from my experience, just theoretical measurements.
